Following potential 2014 draftees

yup, his shooting mechanics are a bit off he needs some work. Inglis has been able to shoot good percentages somehow the past 2 seasons, albeit on limited attempts, 38% and 35% from 3, over 70% ft's

On one of his podcasts in the past week, David Locke was talking about teams that run a two point-guard line-up, like the Clippers with Chris Paul and Nick Collison. Locke was saying that this is one of the "trends" in the league, and that if the Jazz draft Marcus Smart he could play next to Burke, and so on. I thought the whole topic was strange to even bring up, but it occurs to me that maybe Locke is signaling to fans that the Jazz like Marcus Smart over Julius Randle. The Jazz have about a 56% chance of drafting at #5 or #6, and the most likely players to choose from would be Randle and Smart.

Seemed a bit like Locke was trying to sell fans on Smart in case that is the player we end up drafting.

*Darren Collison and maybe he was talking about Exum as well? Who knows, I would be alright with drafting Smart, dude is a shut down defender.

Right Darren, thanks. Am watching the OKC game. Smart has gotten bigger and stronger in the last year. He goes hard to the rim. Locke mentioned Smart specifically. It was pretty obvious that he was doing a bit of a plug for Smart.

I heard Locke on this topic on 1280 and he was noting that Exum is a player that should be included in teh "top 4" like there is a "top 3" meaning they are all interchangable or debateable as to where they will be drafted. He also touched on this topic that the Jazz will take the best player available and that by drafting a guard is by no means a reference to burke not being good enough. The 2-guard plan is definately a trend and that "outside-in" is the way to play. Teams need two guards(players) who can execute high pick and roll becauase it will be run twice on the same possession to be one more step ahead of the rotating defense. BTW Hayward is decent at PnR and could fit in this plan as well. I thought Burks was getting some proficiency at PnR as well at the end. (Maybe he always had it, he just slashed all the time.)

Finally, it is very likely that Locke will be part of the smoke screen devices that will begin spewing shortly. He was saying that "Exum could be the #1 pick in the draft" in that tone of how surprizing things can be... I think the May 20 to Jun26 time frame will be entertaining.

Smart's decision making and passing seem to have improved. I think he is an upgrade at PG over Burke, tbh. Just wish he could shoot better, but maybe he'll develop that. He's a tough bruiser that will wear a defense down, collapse the D, and draw a fair number of fouls. Also, a good drive-and-kick player.

I couldn't disagree more. What Smart showed me was an inability to do much of anything in a halfcourt offense. Not an upgrade.

He can do some other stuff Burke can't doe.

I've been saying this about Smart/Exum for some time.

They can both guard NBA 2's, and a two PG system has worked for several teams. Hell, Memphis went on a roll with Connley/Udrih just minutes ago.

We could make either work with Burke, IMO.
