Smart makes a living inside the paint, as he relishes contact and gets to the free throw line nearly ten times per-40 minutes, while finishing 57% of his shots around the basket in the half-court. The role he will play in the NBA appears to be well defined, as he's very good in transition and on the pick and roll, and is more than capable of creating shots for himself and others, something he appears to have improved on in his sophomore year. Smart's assist to turnover and pure point ratio both increased notably this past season, particularly his ability to avoid coughing the ball up, as his turnover percentage decreased from an alarming 19% as a freshman to a much more manageable 14%.

Another area Smart is likely to excel in very early in the NBA is on the defensive end. With his size, strength and length, Smart is capable of guarding multiple positions, which gives his coach nice versatility to take advantage of in different schemes. He even proved strong enough to put a body on big men in certain stretches, showing the type of toughness and competitiveness NBA executives love. On top of that, he brings terrific anticipation skills for blocks, steals and rebounds, hauling in seven boards per-40 minutes and over three steals thanks to the intensity level and timing he displays.

BUT, when a kid is 7'2," scoring 11.4 pts on 60% shooting, can still hit FT's a 72% clip, grabs 12.7 REB, and blocks 3.1 shots in 21 minutes of play in the well respected ACB league, even I have to consider him as possibly too much talent to pass up.

But more than likely we won't be able to keep Favors, Kanter and Gobert. You can pay two bigs, but not three. If Gobert develops just a little, he'll get a big deal from someone...just look at some of the backups that have signed elsewhere. Many times there's some buyer remorse afterwards, but someone always takes a chance.

I don't really count Tomic; I doubt he comes over. Instead of just wasting the 2nd round picks with guys that may not make the team, I think Lindsey ought to use every single one on a Euro. If only 1 or 2 panned out down the road, that would be fantastic.
 
I'm on the randle as a three bandwagon. Fully. God forbid we lose out on Parker or wiggins, but i believe that randle just might be able to come in as that big 3 like melo and Parker and dominate inside and out.

I think it just takes too much energy for a guy that size to play the 3 for extended minutes. Plus he's not a floor spacer.

I think you might be able to get by with Vonleh splitting time between the 3 and the 4 like Lamar Odom did.

Julius Randle can't be ruled out here, as playing him together with Derrick Favors could work and may be one way to help shore up what was the NBA's worst defense last season."

His rebounding would get lost in the NBA against bigger PFs and C's. I doubt it would translate that well.



His best attributes, to me, that would translate is his ability to take guys off the dribble and score, or draw a foul or draw an and-one. I've done enough video analyses on this and posted them here, so I won't do it again. Suffice to say I think he has elite quickness and tremendous size for the SF position in the NBA. He can back them down, drive pass them, if he can get that jump shot going - it won't even be fair.

HOOO-RAY Julius is coming to shore up the defense... I was nervous there for a minute

all we have to do now is avoid dreaded matchups like Johnny O'Bryant, and we're set
