Why are people so quick to want to trade Trey Burke?
#23 + Trey for Smart?
I like Smart, but I'm not sure that's a great trade.
I was pleasantly surprised by Trey in his first year. I think he has a chance to be pretty darn good.
I just don't think it's a good idea to be trading pieces that you aren't even sure what they are yet, for a piece that you aren't sure about either.
I would rather keep Trey, and take another swing at a player at 23. Trey has at least shown to be a clutch shooter and a smart player. It isn't always about size. Just look at Tony Parker and Chris Paul.
Smart is bigger, a better defender, is better at getting in the lane and finishing, and he brings a toughness the Jazz need. His drive and dish would be pretty tough to defend because he'll overpower just about all the other point guards and draw help. He's just not a floor spacer right now, but I think he'll eventually be an adequate shooter.
The Jazz need a mismatch, and Smart can provide that at the PG. Combine Smart with a top-5 pick (e.g., Smart & Parker, Smart & Randle, or Smart & Vonleh, etc.) and we're in good shape.
