I think his thought process is that Embiid's future injury risk may cause him to drop some spots and therefore provide the Jazz the opportunity to take the risk on him and get a "Jazzfanz Concensus Top4" player at #5.

If Vonleh sneaks into the top-4, it means the draft is now "top-5" in terms of guys who are considered to be possible franchise players. And the Jazz have a top-5 pick. In his post-draft interview, I sensed Lindsey was frustrated Cleveland AGAIN got the #1 pick, but he sounded very pleased the Jazz only dropped 1 spot. I think he knows the #5 pick the Jazz have is much more valuable than the #6. The big mystery in all of this is Exum. Is Exum truly a franchise guard? Because I think he is the most likely to fall to Utah.

No, I'm not trying to start another argument with sahlensguy or jazzfan0124. Teams need a 3-guard rotation. There IS room for Burke, Burks and Exum. But you don't draft a franchise player to come off the bench long-term. He doesn't necessarily have to start this season, but if he's a true combo guard, he can still play 30 mins/per from Day 1. And if he eventually supplants Burke or Burks, then so be it. Of course, this also assumes Hayward is viewed as a SF.

And this is why Utah needs to put a coach in place. He's got to be on the same page as Lindsey in terms of the draft and rotations.

You pick BPA, not to please the new coach...
 
So Embiid goes top 2, Parker slips to 3 or 4, depending on what Philly prefers. Jazz will end up with one out of Parker, Exum or Vonleh.

If they have a strong preference for Parker, they'll put a deal on the table with #5 + Alec Burks to move up to #3.

They could also offer 5+23 to Orlando to move up to 4, but that won't make much meaningful difference.
