Couldn't find it in the CBA FAQ, but I found this in a forbes article: "Below are the Top 5 players that have the option to opt out of their contracts at the conclusion of the NBA Finals and are expected to be on the free agent market sooner rather than later."

It makes way more sense that it would after the Finals are over. That is why every report you read says reportedly, intends to or plans to. Just google "opt out nba" and look at the results from the last 24 hours.

I'm not a fan of Ferguson at all. He's one of the few prospects I want the Jazz to avoid in the first round. He didn't shoot the ball well with Adelaide or in high school. He relies heavily on three pointers on offense and he shot 31.3% from three with Adelaide. He doesn't get to the free throw line. His turnovers outnumber his assists. His defense is uninspiring. He's really skinny at the moment. His mix tapes are flashy and he might be in some dunk contests but his game at this point has no substance. He's a REALLY raw prospect. I don't see a single NBA level skill in his game. It's not to say he can't develop, but in a draft this deep with talent I would avoid him in the first round. I'd be hesitant taking him at 42.

And teams are gonna give up the 10th-12th pick for that?

I don't see it. Yeah, we did it for Hill but we were a lot closer to taking a major step than Charlotte or the TWolves or Detroit. We also already had/have a ton of developing youth and didn't necessarily need another youngster so much as we did a vet to lead us and solidify the 1. Does Hood really do this for any of these teams? He's much more unproven than Hill. Maybe most importantly, this draft is good as hell and a legit player could be had in this range, a much better player imo than last year.

I don't see it happening but maybe the TWolves would bite because Thibs is half-desperate and in win now mode and Hood fits a need and Levine would be better off the bench anyway.

The Jazz gave up the 12th pick for a player with 1 year left who was going to be a UFA. Hood is going to be a RFA, so yeah, it's possible.

I think Detroit is very close to making a major step. If Jackson/Drummond play to their potential and KCP makes a step along with Hood, they could get home-court in the East. And SVG is a Coach/GM, he is more prone to dealing picks for ready now players if he feels he has to win right now. They were 44-38 last year and actually played the Cavs fairly close (still lost in 4, but 3 of the games where within 10 points, and two within 5). They heavily underachieved this year, but I could see them being a 50 win team if they get back on track and add a guy like Hood (and he plays well).
 
All that and still won't get out of the second round. Let's face reality here, only reason jazz got out of first round This year is because Clippers were missing their best player. Even without them took Jazz 7 games. This is not a roster that can make noise in playoffs

They are owned by one of the richest people in the world. So try again saying they are in bad shape financially. Their future is much brighter then the Jazz. Fact.

The Blazers are in really bad shape financially. They're in the luxury tax with their current payroll and no rookies or extensions.
