Following potential 2017 draftees...

So what exactly is Giles injury history at this point?

It's been overstated, people seem to identify him as being injury prone more so than a great basketball player. I was watching a Duke broadcast a week or 2 ago and their announcer Mike Giminski was even commenting on how back in his day guys didn't recover from those injuries and to have aplayer projected like that so high would've been unheard of.

Giles has been a well-known commodity(top-ranked) throughout his entire Hs career, he was like 6'9" 5 years ago. As a freshman (2013) he and Theo Pinson who gets injured every year like clockwork for UNC won a State championship for Wesleyan.

Right before his Sophomore year is where the trouble begins;

-June 13th 2013, Playing for the never been beaten U16 Team USA squad vs Uruguay he landed akwardly and tore his MCL and ACL in his left knee. This caused him to miss his entire Sophomore season, and I'm pretty sure this is still the injury thats caused most of the concern.

-The 2nd knee injury certainly wasn't as severe; A few minutes into his season opener as a Sr. he partially tore his ACL in his right knee about 13 months ago.

-The 3rd surgery a knee arthroscopy almost 3 months ago was to clean up his left knee from the initial injury years back.

Some talk about his injury history like it's 3 devastating injuries, which it really wasn't. This is not a Ray Smith situation. Another injury especially to his knees would be devastating to his stock though, so I can see why Nike would want him to sit the year.

1 thing is certain: His annual limit for radiation and MRT contrast liquid will be exhausted very fast during the draft process.
Another one: GMs will sleep very uncomfortable while having to decide to take a flyer on him if he performs well over other very talented top10 guys that also met expectations on the court, but are still virgins when it comes to the surgeon's knife.

Giles is the type of player that will cost a gm his job.

If he stays healthy it won't make that big of deal but if he keeps reinjuring himself it will be shoulda coulda woulda.

Excellent demeanor on the court. Solid FT shooter. Appears to be a solid guy.

Aside from his obvious physical gifts what impressed me most is his passing. He's probably not a Gasol level passer, but he certainly is a good passer. I have no idea why DX dropped him in their latest mock. I wouldn't mind us snatching him by using both picks on him(trade up if necessary).

Guys with that kind of size, strength and athleticism don't come around everyday. You add legit basketball skills like passing, a shot that isn't broken and intangibles like a good head and a good motor, he has a chance to be special. Maybe Andre Drummond with the ability to hit a jumper and shoot 75% FTs.

he just seems like he has better basketball fundamentals than most huge stiffs who either can't catch a ball or shoot a ball or pass a ball... I really like all Kentucky freshmen. The bad thing is... most of them are jumping up the boards. My early season favourite in Malik Monk is currently top 10 in both DX and nbadraft. Seems like we won't be able to get him.

BTW, do you guys think I'm totally off here in thinking Lauri Markkanen has better and more refined offensive skillset than Porzingis coming into the draft?

Two picks are too much for him in this draft.

I need to watch Markkanen more, but I would say Porzingis was the better prospect. KP is really athletic, runs the floor very well, moves laterally pretty well and is a defensive presence. I'd put Markkanen ahead of Dragan Bender and Henry Ellinson from last year though. Makkanen looks like a prototypical stretch big.

Yeah, I don't think defensively it's really a contest. Markkanen has really slow feet on D from what I've seen. My question was specifically offensively.

Both KP and Markannen have SF like qualities. Markannen's ability to attack with the dribble is more advanced at this point. Their shooting is pretty close to a draw.

Lauri's feet aren't bad defensively either, he has lapses though.

I agree with this. KP moves better, longer, more athletic. But yeah, LM looks like a rich man's Ellenson and better than Bender too.
