What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

Well one good reason is Isaiah Hartenstein was way too low, that needed to be corrected. The other is the position they list him at, it's telling. I'm sure if they thought he was a C/PF or even PF/C he'd be much closer to the top-10. Given what they think of his position, they proabably don't think he's as scarce a commodity as you might assume **cough**Ike Anibogu**cough**

I think it's fair to ask; Is he really a better prospect than Julius Randle? I'm gonna have to say no at this point..

I don't think of him like Randle at all... He's a 5 to me and I still like him in top 10. I know he's not as tall as is ideal for the position, but in the new NBA you don't really need 7+ footers at the 5. He's like a better version of Biyombo with better floor game and better hands. I'd take him over Hartenstein 10/10 times.

Tbh when you watch the Jazz and Rudy, then length matters around the rim most of the time.

It matters, but it's not like Bam has t-rex arms. His length is OK and his athleticism is well above 99% of the players of similar or better size. I think he can guard 1-5 in the league. His movement on D is sublime and he actually can play a bit on offense. And he can hit his FTs at a reasonable rate. I don't know... I really like him. I am not sure I can put him in the top 10 right now, simply because I absolutely love this draft and I'm crushing on a ton of prospects, but if not exactly in the top 10, he needs to be very close to it.

So Draymond potential? Well that would be intriguing for a team that already has some pieces. Hartenstein on the other hand has phenomenal upside on offense. I don't know much about him. But if I compare his size with Howard, Howard has a 4 inch advantage in standing reach and longer arms. There're not many guys at that size that are truly elite defensively.
Think about the Lakers who got D'Snitchchat, Ingram and Randle - all project to become very good on offense. They could be intrigued by a defensive anchor, screensetter and lobtarget. They won't have their pick though if it falls below 3 - too bad.
Other teams like the Mavs, Heat, Nets, Magic or Suns don't have their two potential stars in the making, some not even one. They should always take a chance on someone with Hartenstein's toolkit and pray that he ends up in the Durant, Porzingis, Giannis stratosphere.

This is why I'm really kinda hoping the Jazz consider trying to move for the #3 pick in the 2018 draft... Even tho the cost will be very high.

The reward would be Ayton or Bamba tho and as an added bonus they'd be restricted when Rudy's new extension runs out so there's a bit of insurance value just in case... Both of them are so long and athletic I truly believe either would eventually fill in better than Favors, they both have 3pt range. Bamba's WS is like 7'9"(you can see he's starting to fill out these days).. Ayton's pretty much a bigger badder version of Favors -- I believe he'd be sorta like putting David Robinson next to Rudy, he shoots 3's tho...

There's some interesting candidates in this draft pool tho the 3 that really standout are Hartenstein, Robert Williams and Jeanne... (I really like Dos Anjos too but he's a pure C and can't play with Rudy - unless in a 3-2 zone. He's a stash candidate anyways unless he wants to pull an Ivica Zubac).

Also Borisa Simanic is worthy of mention. He's definitely got a 7'3+ ws along with some handle and a lil bit of a J(3-pt range), he might be a wildcard but I doubt we'll see him in this draft, unless it's as a stash candidate with a promise. He's too raw. He's probably closer to 6'11" than 6'10" tho.. (Obviously a better prospect than Alpha Kaba long-term)

That's Jeanne defending him btw who's in the 7'7 ws range.)

I'd be excited to see the Jazz take a flier especially in the 2nd rd it'd be great value. He's certainly way more athletic than Lyles..

He's tough too I like his body language, reminds me a bit of what you see from Nikola Jokic at times in the league..

I'm not sure if he can ever be a playmaker in the same way Draymond is, but he doesn't have to be. He can be one of the most versatile defenders in the league though. And he can be an athletic finisher in the PnR and on cuts, and he can finish above the rim with ease on lobs. He can also probably punish opponents in the post on switches(he's very strong). Even though Bam is not at the Draymond level of playmaker, I've been pleasantly surprised by his passing. He makes the simple and correct passes almost always. He seems to play the game right.

I don't trust Hartenstein's defense and motor at all. I don't know if you've watched him but he seems like a pouter too. He gets pissed off at teammates and gives up on plays on D as retaliation when something doesn't go his way on offense. His offensive game is intriguing, but again... I can't stand this type of attitude. I would HATE to have to cheer for such a player. He's a bit like Cousins like that, except... never having done anything to deserve any sort of leeway with his attitude.

YOu could argue Cousins has also never done anything, since his teams have always been losing.
I wouldn't bet against an 18yr old's attitude. If he's there at 10 and wants to come over right away I'd had to think about him really hard - and that's not because of shared nationality.
Just look at the past drafts where GMs ignored upside or focused too much on personality.
2013 the all time bad year at the time may now have produced the best player since Durant in '07 or Curry('09) and several other highly productive guys like Gobert, Schröder and Muhammad all dropped because of character concerns or the consequences of those the same year. Meanwhile the Magic drafted good guy Dipo at #2 and have refrained from drafting max upside until '15 and find themselves in a hole where their collective upside is a #8 seed. Happy birthday, Rob Hennigan.
A lot of 18 yr olds overestimate themselves and have very high expectations and opinions of themselves. Some are just more socially aware and crafty enough to hide it to an extent.
Hartenstein getting pissed means at least he cares about the game and the outcome. You could interpret that as desire to win. He'll have time to learn to do it in a less disruptive way.
Psych examination and interviews will probably be important for him to win supporters in front offices.

If you have desire to win, you don't throw teammates under the bus and you don't refuse to do your job on one end of the floor because something didn't go your way on O. This doesn't scream like "I get pissed off cuz I want to win so much". This screams "I get pissed off cuz I didn't get to finish this or that offensive possession and I don't care if this costs us the game, I'm gonna show you how pissed off I am by not defending".

I'm not sure he's worth a top 10 pick even purely talent wise. Especially in this draft. I have about 15 players at least I'd take before him. Just my 2 cent.

I have been a justin Patton fan all season. I think he would be the perfect project behind gobert and favors. I think with his shooting he could play along side gobert for stretches.

This feels like cherry picking to me. Maybe you've watched him play more than I did. Idk.
