Following potential 2017 draftees...

I was talking about Carl Jr. Oh believe me, i have a lot of sympathy for his family, they have not had it easy. Rick Pitino recruited Carl pretty hard while he was at Hunter. It seemed Carl was pulling himself out of his personal hell. I was rooting for him. Then one ill fated night he lost his eye while out with friends. I heard it was a fight. Some one told me he got shot in the face but i dont know the true story.

A lot of Carls friends were mine as well. We all used to hoop at WVC rec together. To be honest, Carl wasnt even the best guy there, but you could see his soft hands and unusual dexterity for 6'8" 300 pound big man. The shooting, the ballhandling, it was all there. But his friends are dodo heads. I still see the snaps they send me. They drink heavily, they goof around, sometimes send me some pretty lewd images. You can look up Carls facebook now and see pictures of weed and liquor everywhere.

I honestly feel sorry for the family. Carl loves his brother. His family never had a fair shake and I wouldnt be surprised if Carl would have made it to the nba in a different setting. That said, reality still exists and if we draft Caleb, I think we would have to make sure hes not distracted, not influenced by poor decision makers.

LOL ok that makes sense. I was thinking 'this dude might have some sort of legendary story and not even fully know the scope of it'..

Carl would be a reach for Utah.. He's redundant with Lyles. The kid I was just posting about Wilson is a better match. Jonathan Motley makes more sense.

Yeah it's just so natural for him. I think Fultz is going to be good too, but it doesn't look as easy. He works for his points with counter moves and counters to his counter moves. I love to watch him play but I've been kind of wary of those types of players since Evan Turner and Otto Porter (Both are decent to good players but just not worthy of their draft position).

Time has proven u coulda done a whole lot worse that OP jr. at the top of that draft. Evan Turners kinda a different story.

btw I hate the Lamar Odom comp. It's probably just used a lot because theres 30+ mil people in cali. D.J. Wilson of Michigan might actually be fitting of the comp tho... somewhere between him and Derrick Williams, with a mix of rim-protection - he seems to be a better shotblocker than either of them. 4 blks in the last game.

Derrick Williams had a crazy run in the tournament and I sorta see parallels.. It's feasible that Wilson can leapfrog his way into the 1st rd and the Jazz range.

I've said before he's a good match with our group. Certainly he's got balance. He's also a damn good athlete who's explosive..

I kinda feel like were gonna see an Andrew Bogut or Greg Oden style run from Purdue led by Haas and Swanigan.

Bogut only went to the sweet 16.

So who was the obvious pick instead of Porter in that draft?

I won the bracket 50+ kids had organized Sr. year of Hs that season. I had Utah making a run because of Bogut and he came thru..

so it'll always be a heroic run to me. Same for Greg Oden and OSU(didn't win my pool that year tho).

So making it to the sweet 16 is heroic? Lol wut?

Edit: like seriously, picking a team to make the sweet 16, and having them go no further does nothing to influence a bracket pool.

Are you thinking of the Andre Miller/Doleac led team that lost in the championship game to Kentucky?

That 2013 draft wasn't even remotely as bad as they said it was.. thats why I like to stick with the mindset of "these players are getting bigger/better/faster/more skilled at a younger age" in mind.. and **** if the kids in American HS's are slacking or sub-par sometimes theres enough International talent to fill the void.

bruh just because it's not a major storyline doesn't mean it isn't a compelling storyline.. He almost had a triple-double IIRC.

He cemented his spot at the top of the draft with that run, first Aussie ever to go #1. Utah didn't have a good team, they had Andrew Bogut.

Who is this Lyles you speak of?

Who is this Lyles you speak of?

Lyles is gonna be fine, maybe he wont get it together this year but I expect a big offseason..

People act like the Jazz would be running a 3-man big rotation of just Favors-Rudy-Lyles. with Withey Diaw or JJ playing sparingly if foul trouble/injury occurs. But Lyles being so bad this year has thrown a wrench in the plans.

obviously thats not the case.

If anything Jazzfanz who don't like Lyles should be happy with his play this year because it's opened the door to taking a flier on a different type of big for him to platoon with.. (possibly one thats too raw to play, or possibly one thats ready to handle about 12-17minutes per game such as Jonathan Motley).
