We are 15 million over the LUXURY tax with this plan. Lets say we dump Burks for nothing. That's ~5M over the luxury tax. This is why we need the space Boris Diaw will free... Now tell me who are you cutting out of the plan so we go under the tax.

So you dont think we keep Ingles if we keep Burks?

No way in hell. Our summer starts with dumping Burks. He's the bare minimum we need to get rid off in order to have any chance of keeping the rest of the team. I think they will try to dump Burks and hope it doesn't take too much to do it. And from then on... you still need to navigate the market and try not to overspend in order to keep the rest.

I doubt that Baynes trade happens....

I'm pretty confident Ingles will be back. The only way Utah takes Meyers Leonard is if they lose Hayward. If you keep Hayward, this team isn't in the mode of taking back bad contracts in order to gain a pick.

Utah is going to be in a tough spot very soon financially, where they may not even be able to keep all their players. They simply aren't in a position to help other teams gain cap relief

If the Spurs want to clear cap room to pursue Chris Paul (and the Jazz don't mind for some reason), the Jazz could take a player from the Spurs using Diaw and some of last year's cap space. It kills the Clippers and keeps the Spurs from pursuing George Hill, at least.

If the Jazz want to dangle Diaw and space to lure a player (with or without pick swap) from a team like Detroit or Portland that needs help, that's another scenario that could work.

This idea that we can just offer cap space for a player like Rubio or Dragic seems far-fetched. I don't see why teams like Minny or Miami would do that deal to dump a good player.

The Jazz will spend picks to dump Burks on someone with space.

True. It doesn't matter though, it's just for demonstration purposes to show what happens if we take back any sort of salary in exchange for Diaw's contract. You can substitute that with Green or Leuer or Harkless or whoever you think will make sense to trade for with Diaw's contract.

Will be interesting. Dumping Burks seems like a pipe dream.

I assumed that. In addition to it you need to dump 5 million more.

Jazz will offer 2018 OKC pick to dump Burks. The Jazz may not mind going $5M into LT for a 55+ win team that's top 3 in the WC.

In that scenario, they've also picked up a replacement back-up C that may help them move Favors, plus a #12 lottery pick. That would be a score. Yeah, not sure it happens.

1 thing for all the Burks dump/LT talk. Can't the Jazz wait til the trade deadline to do this? Might it be better to wait and see what Burks can do? Maybe he plays well enough to the point we can dump him for less? I mean, if we know we can dump Burks at that price, what's the disadvantage of waiting to do it?

They can. But they need to explore the market even now. Maybe someone(Nets?) is desperate enough and accepts a pure salary dump? For example in my mock-draft I had 2 offers for Burks dump. One was with me sending a second and the other one was with the other team sending me a future second for Burks. There will be teams who might want to take a shot on a talented and young player.
