Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Whenever I watch Trae Young I have flashbacks about Trey Burke. They are eerily similar in a lot of ways. Similar frame. Similar athletic concerns. Similar scoring struggles vs length. Similar questions about pure PG abilities. Both had seasons where they blew up and rocketed up draft boards.

Okobo has a little bit of Steph Curry showtime attitude and skill when he plays
NBA teams need lots of firepower to compete now a days
Teaming him with Mitchell or off the bench could be what the Jazz need

Trae Young is a significantly better shooter than burke and has uch better vision.

Comparing their shooting numbers in their breakout years
T Young- 42.2 FG% on 19.9 FGA per game, 49.3 2pt FG% on 9.1 2pt FGA per game, 36.0 3pt FG% on 10.3 3pt FGA per game
T Burke- 46.3 FG% on 14.4 FGA per game, 50.9 2 pt FG% on 9.3 2pt FGA per game, 38.4 3pt FG% on 5.1 3pt FGA per game

There's no doubt that Burke had better talent around him. If Young had comparable talent around him he would have taken less shots and had better percentages. Would he have been that much better of a shooter than Burke though? Or is that just perception because we've seen him shoot a lot and we've seen what he can do when he gets hot?

And does Young really have better vision? I struggle to see how a player with good vision can average 5.2 turnovers per game.

Okobo looks clearly better than Khyri Thomas and De'anthony Melton. I'd put him ahead of Troy Brown too. He's easily a top-20 prospect who must be a bit off the radar. Now I'm afraid the Spurs are going to take him.

Teams that pick before the Jazz and have an apparent need at PG:

Magic at 6
Bulls at 7
Cavs at 8
Knicks at 9
Clippers at 12 and 13
Suns at 16
Hawks at 19 (Schroeder supposedly wants out, which is why I list them)

Young, Sexton, and Shai G-A are the 3 PG's who are generally ranked ahead of Okobo for now. There are others too, but I dont think they will be soon. I think the PG class will probably be looked at as 5 deep with potential to be starters down the road (Young/Sexton/Shai/Melton/Okobo). I'd be shocked and appalled if guys like Brunson/Carter/Holiday/Shamet/Milton (who I view as career backups at best) went ahead of any of them.
