Following Potential 2025 Draftees

A thought exercise:

If Flagg, Harper, and Bailey came out strongly today and said they're all definitely returning to college next year, what would you advise the Jazz to do?

Would you tell them to win as much as possible and see if they can get that OKC debt conveyed this year (and then maybe trade what you can after the season to go all in for a tank next year)?
Come to think about it, we probably have already stacked up too many losses this season to even be dreaming about conveying the pick this year. So just forget this scenario.

To be honest, if I were someone like Flagg or Harper and I had to choose between the bottom feeders of Washington, New Orleans, Charlotte, Toronto and Utah, the Jazz would be my last choice by far. A combination of weather, small town feel and the fact that the Jazz have no promising young players. Even Charlotte at least has LaMelo with all his followers. Believe me, there are no college players salivating at the thought of playing with the great Lauri Markkanen. Utah has zero pull now.

Stfu. Again, I dont get posters like you who come on here to be negative for the sake of being negative.

For one thing, the Jazz have Lauri, who is arguably the best player on any of those teams. LaMelo has won nothing in his life (literally has lost at every level). The Jazz also have Walker Kessler, who pairs amazingly with Cooper because he likes playing with Malauch to give him vertical spacing for lob threats. Utah is arguably the best fit for him if he wants to win now and be on a team that fits well around him.

NOLA: A joke franchise from a FO/Ownership perspective. A lot of talent with Zion/Murphy/McCollum/Murray, but not a good fit next to Zion and Zion is never healthy and seemingly isnt psyched to be in NOLA.
Charlotte: A lot of talent, but Melo plays losing basketball and is always injured. Mark Williams is so flagged for injuries he got a trade rescinded.
Toronto: A lot of talent, I could see that being a favorable destination, but a lot of redundancy on the roster around Cooper.
Washington: Not a lot of talent, young or experienced. Faces the longest rebuild of any of these teams.

I'm not going to argue if Cooper likes a bigger market, because I dont know him, but he is from Maine. He's use to small town cold.

Watching Fleming today. Man, I wish Saint Joe's would feature him more. His talent is so immense. 3/3 from 3 in the first half.

Plays for the most ******* ACC team in recent memory in Miami, but Cleveland is having a good year and is probably a top tier 2nd round prospect if he falls low due to how bad Miami has been. Has an eye poppingly bad -1.6 DBPM, but he seemingly has the physical tools to be a good defender, so I'm not sure how much of that is on him vs how bad Miami is as a team.

If the Jazz come out of this draft with Kasparas, Tre or probably Edgecombe, then this tank year will have been a success. Besides, there's no way these guys are going to give up getting drafted into generational wealth and fame. Utah isn't a less desirable situation than places like Charlotte, Toronto or poorly run franchises like Chicago, New Orleans and Washington.

I already knew this is how you feel even before reading this post.

It is just being realistic. SLC even in the best years was routinely mentioned as the worst destination for the NBA players. Two most recent centerpieces the Jazz had, Hayward and Mitchell, clearly wanted out. Heck, even Conley did not want to come to the Jazz but was forced to.

But more specifically, you are looking at the things from the GM perspective and not as an 18-year old star. Playing with quality role players like Markkanen and Kessler will get you nothing when you are 19. While playing with LaMelo immediately makes you the center of attention for media and social media. And, btw how many endorsements Kessler and Lauri have compared to LaMelo? Like, both of them combined?

I think that the most realistic way for the Jazz to build the team is to lean heavily on foreign players like Memo, AK and Lauri. Even if the Jazz somehow get Flagg there is a high chance that he will try to find his way out by the time the Jazz are competitive. And, anyway, personally as an NBA fan I would not want Flagg wasting his entertainment and competitive potential in the wasteland that the Jazz is likely destined to be for the next several years: no other star prospects, second-rate veterans, young and inexperienced coach, the lack of team culture. The Jazz are in the total disarray and all they have is praying that somehow a future superstar falls into their lap, sticks with the team and fixes everything. It rarely works.

Oh, and also, you should try to remember that you are on the discussion board where different people WILL have different opinions and that is by design. If it annoys you you may want to explore something called Mirror Work. "Mirror work is a self-help practice that involves talking to yourself in the mirror, often using positive affirmations. This technique aims to improve self-esteem and foster a deeper connection with yourself. "
