I mean I was responding to the original post that said he measured similar to VJ. I understand there is a lot of differences between guys athletically other than just jumping high. I tend to care more about how the athleticism manifests itself on the court either way... with Tre the numbers certainly don't scream great athlete even though he performed well at the combine. You're just overthinking what the max vert test says.
VJ isnt an incredible athlete because he jumps really high. He's an incredible athlete becuase he jumps very high very quickly, which is something the combine doesnt test.
You will still want some serious playmaking at other positions even if Tre is labeled the pg imo.Would be awesome if Leif is right and Tre could play point guard. I’d prefer he play down a position and guard smaller guys.
Physical ability makes sense.I guess I should amend it to say "The best ways to judge physical ability"
Personally, I haven't seen anything convincing about testing numbers -> NBA outcomes. And when I look at the testing numbers, I don't think it's a good representation of reality. If a player doesn't meet expectations (good or bad), maybe that deserves a second look. But I honestly think I'm better off not paying attention to the testing numbers.
There's no reason why Tre Johnson cant be a solid defender at the NBA level. Of course there is risk in projecting that, but I'd rather take that risk than take a lesser offensive talent who projects to be better on defense because those guys also dont always pan out to be good NBA defenders.
I think we are just too shellshocked by how bad a guy like Keyonte is on D.
Well shooting isnt a singular skill and Tre is pretty much great at everything in the shooting umbrella and he is a good passer. Why there is still this notion he isnt is beyond me, but he's a good passer.I would agree that Tre has the physical tools to be a good defender. I already admitted to overreacting to some really bad moments from games I watched live. If I had to bet I would guess that he will be a bad defender in the NBA, but it's not guaranteed.
I think the biggest reason to be down on Tre is that he doesn't really do anything else besides shooting at a high level. Almost every other guard projected in the first round has better rebound, assist, and stocks than him.
I would agree that the combination of limited overall game and poor defense leads to comparisons that aren't fair. There are degrees to these things and he's not as extreme as he can't do anything besides shoot or that he has no chance at being a good defender.
The truth is Tre is such a good shooter and the other stuff isn't so bad that I understand having him super high.
You called him a pounder and basically referred to him as a one dimensional player. He is not. You said all he was is a scorer I said he wasn’t and referred to an interview. Then you asked for high school stats, then posted them proving my point.Again, I really don't understand how your brain works.
I wasn't trying to prove any point, I was just having a conversation.
What do you mean by good, and based off what?Well shooting isnt a singular skill and Tre is pretty much great at everything in the shooting umbrella and he is a good passer. Why there is still this notion he isnt is beyond me, but he's a good passer.
