Following Potential 2026 Draftees

i haven't seen much discussion in this thread about karim lopez - which of course makes sense, but is there anybody who has followed him closely or seen him much and has strong opinions either way?

he's one of the younger guys in the draft (still 18) and just had a game where he went for 32 on 11-13 FGs, 9-12 FTs. based on highlights, not much of a vertical guy, big body, and has a pretty mature game already. you don't usually refer to 18 year olds as crafty, but he looks like a pretty crafty scorer. no idea if he can defend.

Ideally, you only need 4-5 dribbles to "create". We have people who can do that – even Lauri these days.

What we don't need is ball pounders.

Will Hardy's ball-movement schemes aren't going to hold up against good defensive teams. At a certain point, you need a couple guys who can beat a switch and also score in isolation. For example, the Thunder have both SGA and JDub who do this. The Jazz are likely hoping that Ace can grow into that role, but he's got a ways to go. Keyonte can do it some of the time, but not enough to be the #1 guy who attracts the main attention of the defense.

He's big and skilled. Likely a 4. He reminds a bit of Deni Avdija, but he's shooting from deep better than Deni did. And yeah, still super young. He's got three levels offensively and he's a decent rebounder. His feet are a bit slow though, so that will probably hold back his defense out on the floor.

I think teams are going to rate Ament above Lopez due to Ament having a bit more length and more potential as an iso & playmaking guy.

It's in this thread, just search for his name and you should see quite a bit about him.

Sure, but what salary are we wanting to part with exactly? We dont have anyone on the roster we need to trade unless there's some massive upgrade from JJJ out there for him and the 7th.
“Need” to trade? If we’re going out to get a real player we should be sending a real (but lesser) player anyway.

If we’re talking about Giannis then JJJ is fine matching salary. Walker might work in a sign-and-trade (though, he’d have to have the slightest desire to play there).

This build is clunky and should not be seen as finished.

It's mostly finished for now. Need to see how JJJ actually fits in and who we draft. I dont think there will be any move on draft night that makes sense involving the pick if it lands at 7/8.
