For those who want to trade down

Who or what do you want? I assume most of you would prefer we took Knight which if we do we might be able to move down and acquire something in the process.

Let me first say that I do not want the Jazz to trade down. I like Kanter or Williams (I think there's a 90% chance Kanter's there and a 10% chance that Williams is there), and I would prefer to keep whichever one was leftover.

But I do know that there are a lot of people that want Knight, and the consensus is that we could possibly make a draft day trade with anyone from 4-6 and still get Knight. So from those teams: CLE, TOR & WAS what or who do you want? Honestly, the only players I would even consider from any of those teams are DeRozan and McGee and I think we all know that we aren't getting either of those. BTW, I checked out Cleveland's roster - THEY ARE AWFUL... YIKES, I wouldn't take one of their players.

Some people have mentioned future 1st rounders. I'd be down for that, but I think all 30 teams this year learned their lesson that you protect the hell out of your 1st rounders, so there would be a good chance that whatever future 1st we got would be protected or we possibly would not be able to cash in on it for a while.

Other people have brought up getting Washington's 18 & 34 to move down to 6. I don't like this one either as it would mean that 6 of our players (one half of our roster) would have a total of 2 NBA seasons under their belt. I like the youth movement, but this would seem more like a youth revolution. Although on the plus side we would most likely get a top 3 pick again next year.

Anyways, just wanted to see if someone could sell me on trading down. Let's hear it.

You don't trade down, especially in this draft. To do so would be crazy. Williams could be Pierce. Kantor could be Boozer. Knight could be very good. You don't trade those guys for CJ Miles's, Raja Bell's and backup big guys that probably will never play.

You don't trade out of the first three picks.

Staying at 3 means you absolutely believe Kanter/Williams/Knight is a future star player. That's what I'm not sold on. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be happy with them, but I don't see those guys as head and shoulders above the JV/Biyombo/Walker types. So if JV or Biyombo is your guy, getting something extra of value makes sense. There really isn't anyone in this draft who is a sure thing.

Who is going to want to move up to 3? Which team will give up a current player to get a guy at 3 who will probably end up being just as much of a risk as the guy they take at 6 or 7 or 8...? If the Jazz do trade down, I don't think they'd get much back.

If Irving's body fat was a lot less would people have a better opinion about him as a sure thing prospect? The reason I say this because before his body fat % was released mostly everyone loved him and after it was known, people seemed to have huge doubts about him and cooled off him as a sure thing prospect.

I don't want the Jazz to draft a PG with their first pick but I can be persuaded to trade down if they still get a big (Valanciunas, Biyombo) + a first rounder next year. If it's protected then maybe the Jazz can package their 2012 picks to move up in the draft.

I did, and still do, think he's a sure thing.

To what? I'd only consider 1.

I think there's some confusion. What I mean is in order for the Jazz trade down from 3rd this year to say 6th this year (Valanciunas or Biyombo) they'd have to receive a 1st round pick in the 2012 draft. If that 2012 pick is protected then I'd still be ok with it because I would hope that that pick + the protected GS pick + the jazz' own 2012 pick (if they don't have to forfeit it to Minny) could be packaged in order to move up in the 2012 draft.

I'm not saying to move up in their year's draft.

Sorry, Bentley, I just butchered it through poor reading comprehension. I thought you were saying you wanted to move 'up' in the draft this year .. to like #1 or 2.

I wouldn't want to trade down. But I would trade out in a heartbeat with a decent offer. Neither Knight or Kanter excite me all that much.

I'm actually more intrigued by the prospects at 12 (Burks, Singleton, Jimmer, Hamilton).

All depends on the protection of course. There would still be a chance we get NO picks next year. If we trade with Washington and receive their pick, for me it would have to be a top 3 protection at most. Moving up 3 spots in this draft wouldn't get us that much, IMO. More likely, they would want to put a top 7 or 8 protection on it, in which case we likely wouldn't receive the pick next year.

I would trade out in a heartbeat as well if it's to one of the bottom 5 teams for their unprotected 2012 pick.
