Free Agency 2012 Thread

I just hope that someone under the cap snags up Elton Brand before he can sign for the vet minimum for Miami or whatnot.

I'm fairly certain someone will get him before he clears waivers. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if all three of those teams I mentioned put in bids for him.

I'm positive the Mavericks will.

When was the last time the Mavericks were one of the few teams under the cap? I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

Antawn Jamison is in discussions with the Bobcats. The main enticement there is the chance to be with his family during the season. Also, Portland has waived Shawne Williams who came over in the Gerald Wallace trade.

Update on the draft pick the Rockets get for Kyle Lowry: https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-...-houston-rockets-continue-202826985--nba.html

In each of the next 4 years (through 2016), the pick is protected out of the bottom 16. Next year, it will also be top 3 protected. In 2014 and 2015 it will be top-2 protected and in 2016 it will be #1 protected. From reading this, it sounds like if the Raptors somehow manage to get through 2016 without giving Houston the pick, then Houston gets nothing.

I like the innovative protection for HOU actually. They get everything from 4-15, 2-15, and 1-15. When was the last time Toronto made the playoffs 3 years in a row?

1999-00 through 2001-02. The interesting thing is just the huge gap in the ways they can keep their pick. Either be a playoff team or be terrible and have the odds play out, or be bad but not terrible and buck the odds in a big way.
