Never heard that quote about the Arnold Palmers .. good one.
 
Brown is better than Watson in my opinion as an overall player. I would rather have him, if he comes at the right price.
 
I like Shannon Brown, but I really don't think he should be a priority for the Jazz. If he does sign, I hope it would be as a 2 or as a 5th guard (3rd string PG/SG). If he was that much of a PG, he would've been played as one and the Lakers wouldn't have went out and blown $16 million on Steve Blake.
 
Provided there is consistency in the offense from previous years/coaches, then Watson is ideal. We don't need another player who doesn't know the system in this shortedn season. Earl seems to be ideal to me. Even Price seems reasonable to me as a 13th who would provide model citizenship, an excellent practice player, energy guy, (both as a defensive presence) and one who also would preach the gospel of the jazz to the new guys. I don't know much about Jazz financial position, but i would think that we'd first want to evaluate BigAl, Milsap Favors, Haward, Burks and Harris, before we extend offers anyone mid tier for any length of time.

Maybe better player overall, but not a better backup

To be more clear, Brown will suck less if he is a starter and if he is playing near Kobe, but Watson will make less mistakes in limited time as a backup pg should do, he will commit less turnovers and give right decisions with the ball unlike Brown would do.
 
After sleepin' on this, I now realize some of you are thinkin' like a GM, where $$ is as important as talent, while others see things as a coach, where $$ is somebody else's issue, I just need to WIN with the guys on the roster. Looking at it as a COACH, it's hard to ignore Kirilenko, who is still a good defender with his length. Can't coach that, I'm afraid, so I'd make him and Watson priorities.
And dump Bell with the amnesty thing, who really didn't help us offensively or defensively, and is totally replaceable with Hayward, Burks, and CJ, who I understand was asked to work on his SG skills in the offseason. Okur, and as a COACH I could care less how much $$ he's making, can still put up points in bunches, so I'd keep him.
 
Here are my three concerns with the roster.

Hayward/Burks/Favors/Kanter need to play at least 10 minutes a night and more the nights things are going well.

We need veteran players to cover for them the nights it isn't happening so we can make the playoffs.
With Jefferson and Millsap we are good with our bigs. Raja Bell is an okay option at the 2. Which leads to my next point.

We need a backup point guard and someone to guard the Carmelo's, Lebron's and Durant's of the league. This could be AK. Wow I just checked 2011 free agents there is no one available that would be cheap. Maybe Dominic McGuire. Battier or Grant Hill would be great but probably will go to a contenders. Derrick Brown, Julian Wright or Jared Jefferies? On second thought maybe we should just stand pat and see what our young guys can do.

CJ Miles and Raja Bell are expendable but they are cheap. So we might not be able to find a better option at their price. Memo is expendable and not cheap. We might keep him just because he can make salaries match in a trade or because we don't want to play him and pay his replacement.
