Spurs has Ginobili (won more Chips than all those teams combined), and the last I checked that's the model we're working off of.

You seemed like you were saying that a team can not be successful without a scoring 6th man. I simply disagree.

I also believe that the spurs would have still been successful if ginobli started for them all those years. (iirc ginobli did start sometimes)

But they didn't though. Pop is very deliberate, there is a reason he had Ginobili coming off the bench even as recently as this year when they won their last Championship.


Burks can be just as valuable in that role.

Couldnt burks also be valuable as a starter?

I have heard haywards game is more similar to ginoblis, maybe hayward should come off the bench.

Hayward is a lot less explosive getting to the rim though. Also we're not paying him MAX money just to play 25-30 min. a game.


Burks attacks the rim much better, and since he's played the PG for us before his playmaking is right up there. He just needs to work on his 3pt shooting.

it seems like the spurs/pop model wouldnt let salary dictate how a player is used.
Seems like the spurs would do whatever is best for the team to win

Well I just think Hayward's length is better served at the defensive end as a starter. Burks is not a great defender so he is better placed in the 2nd unit where he wouldn't have to do a lot defensively, and can just attack the basket which is what he does best.

Like i said. You should look up his stats as a starter.

There was a 5 game stretch when hayward was hurt and he scored 16, 34, 20, 6 (burks was +16 and only played 28 minutes cause the jazz won by 21 pts) and 18.

An average of 19 pts per game as a starter and that is including his 6 pt game when he only took 2 shots in a jazz blowout victory.
He also averaged about 5 assists in those games that hayward was out.

They won 2 of those games and lost 3 (one of the losses was a 4 pt loss on the road against san antonio) and that is with our "best" player (hayward) out so our depth/bench was even worse than normal.

Loved those 5 games... Everyone always holds Hayward as this complete player and that's why he is head over heels better than burks, but those 5 games showed that burks could take on that Hayward's role and do it just as good or dare I say even better than Hayward!!!
