Agreed. If DL is interested in Parsons (and I think he should be), he should have a fair offer sheet ready to roll as soon as contracts can be signed. In order to secure Parsons, he should also offer to take on Jeremy Lin's ridiculous contract for JLIII strait up if they agree to not match the Parsons offer. Giving up Parsons is enough of an asset for me to help facilitate their salary cap maneuvers to land Bosh. That way they don't have to send out any additional assets to get rid of Lin and they don't have to match the offer for Parsons, further stressing their salary cap situation. Win / win.

If the Jazz are interested in Parsons, they could potentially pry him away from the Rockets by offering him a nice contract on the first day of free agency that would then count as a hold against the Rockets cap and mess up their efforts to go after James, Anthony or Bosh.

Houston allowed him to become a RFA so that they had more immediate cap space to add a MAX contract and then could match anything after the fact. But if the LeBron and Carmello show hasn't been sorted out yet, the Rockets would be forced to make all of their moves to shed salary cap space, negotiate a max contract with James, Anthony or Bosh and then get that contract signed before the 3 day period is up when they're forced to match on Parsons or let him go.

If any team is interested in prying him away from the Rockets, they should have the contract ready to go at 12:01 on July 10th. If the Jazz did go after Parsons, I'd bet that they would still match on Hayward and roll a starting lineup of Favors, Kanter, Parsons, Hayward and Burke/Exum. . . with either Burke/Exum and Burks providing the spark off the bench.

Getting Parsons wouldn't necessarily mean that the Jazz would move on from Hayward. They could just decide to keep him at SG and bring Burks in off the bench as the 6th man again.

If the expectation is that the Jazz have to overpay for a free agent, then they should overpay to add a quality young guy like Chandler Parsons who could end up being a quality starter for Utah and a key player moving forward. In Houston, he's nothing more than a 4th option after they add one more MAX guy to their lineup. In Utah, he'd be a much more important player for their success. If he comes in and is "the man" then that sets him up nicely for his next contract as well.

I think that he'd be a great fit for the Jazz in terms of being a quality shooter, more than capable in the P&R and solid on defense. If the Jazz came to him with a 4 year offer in the $11-$12 million range. . . I think that he'd at least have to consider it. If the offer is concrete, it at least puts the conversation out there for Houston to make decisions. If he doesn't sign it, then he's counting on getting a similar deal after the dust settles, which might not be the case.

Like I said, I'd offer to take Lin's contract on for no additional assets if they'd agree to not match the offer. It would give the Jazz another quality young starter to add to Quin's arsenal and it doesn't even make it so they can't keep Hayward around too (depending on what kind of offer he gets). Even by taking on Lin, the Jazz could use their Bird Rights to retain Hayward and their MLE if they wanted to bring Tomic over too. They'd be above the Salary Cap, but well under the Luxury Tax line. And they'd still have a ton of assets to use this year or next if they wanted to make a play for an All Star player who wants out.

They'd be young, solid and deep. And depending on how Exum develops, they might actually have an All-Star caliber player to eventually be the leader when he's ready.

I expect Parsons contract to be in the Nic Batum(4/46) Tyreke Evans(4/44) range.

I'm guessing Hayward is looking for (and gets) 52-56 over 4 years.

With Parsons and Exum the Jazz would suddenly have some players already deemed marketable.

It's all about the money. If Utah has the best offer, then there's a decent chance that he'll consider it anyways. The fact that there's been no chatter about Chandler to Utah so far tells me that he's not really in the plans. It would take great timing to pull him away from the Rockets, but I think the Jazz are more interested in bargain free agents. At that point, I'd hope they facilitate a salary cap dump for someone else and get back a decent asset for the future.

I think Parsons would jump at any opportunity with big money. The kid was paid less than a million last year. I am sure he wants to stay in Houston but if they don't want him I am sure he would take our offer especially since the Jazz have an open spot of him if Hayward leaves and even if he stays. I don't see a need to take on Lin's contract because I think there is little chance Houston would match an $11 million contract considering they have 3 MAX deals already. People don't realize the Luxury Tax is much worse than it use to be. Houston is an organization that doesn't show that much loyalty to it's players. The GM is constantly trading and gather assets to go after the big players. I hope this is the guy the Jazz are targeting, I am a big fan.

We're also counting on Parsons to be like Carlos Boozer.
Chandler likely came to an understanding about his contract before they made him a RFA. WHy would he want to sign with Utah when he can play for a contender? I would hope his word means more than a couple of million per year (for example, if Houston offered him $9M and he could get $12M on the open market). I'm sure the dominos will fall on July 10th, which gives them time to see if the Bosh deal goes down and THEN work on a contract for Parsons.

GVC...is it correct the cap hold is adjusted immediately once an offer sheet is made? For example, if Parsons were to sign an offer sheet on July 10th, it's my understanding the cap hold for Houston goes up to whatever his offer is. They still have 3 days to match or decline, but their cap hold is increased until they match, the 3 days is up or they officially decline.

And Houston definitely wants Parsons. They're waiting to see what they can spend their cap on since they can go over the cap to re-sign Parsons. If he gets a fairly large deal, they should be able to duck the LT and flesh out the remainder of the roster with rookie-scale guys and vet minimum types (like what OKC should've done if they weren't miserly dip****s).
