So the Pacers reportedly offered Stephenson 5 years $44 million... = $8.8m per year on average.

He has now signed with CHA at 3 years $27 million = $9m per year (team option last year)

Hmmmm.. he's willing to go to CHA for $0.2million extra per year???

Somebody please explain to me the logic behind this.

I bet he doesn't want to play behind paul george and larry bird. hornet team looks pretty good in the east.

So you're saying the Pacers wouldn't have offered him the 3 year deal?????

That's ridiculous IMO.. why lose him just for not getting the extra 2 years? Bird's losing it IMO.

No they didn't.

After he refused to take 44 for 5, they made another offer for 4 years beginning at 7 per year. With 7.5% raises this would have given $31.3M over 4 years.

Yeah but that's my point though - Pacers is build to WIN NOW. They have a small window with West, plus the Heat has just been dismantled with the Cavs not yet at full strength.

To me this is the time for the Pacers to go all guns blazing and they really need to lock up Stephenson if they want to make another run. 3 years is good cos if they don't win it within the next 2-3, they can always just blow it up or simply reload.

Really don't understand what Bird is trying to do here....

Saving payroll. They didn't want to strike a deal themselves unless it was favorable for the organisation. Now they're just gonna match it.

Excellent move by Rich Cho and Michael Jordan. That contract is a bargain in this market. Lol at the Pacers, they're screwed now.

Yup. Bird screwed this up pretty, pretty bad.

Larry Legend dropped the ball, I think this is worse for the Pacers than losing Parsons is for the Rockets tbh.

The Pacers are not beating the Cavs or the Bulls as currently constructed.

They have to replace Lance with Evan Turner or Rodney Stuckey i presume.

LOL .. they're not gonna win the EAST with those two starting, let alone the Spurs.

Couldn't they go after Bledsoe?
