What's new

Free Alec Burks

This kid better slow the game down and get some handles like Tyreke Evans or he's not going to last too long in the league.

I like how he has one bad game, and Franklin comes out to bash him. He better blah blah or he's done.
Please check yo self.

I didn't even think it was that bad of a game. He had some pretty amazing passes, would have had several highlight worthy assists if teammates had converted the easy shots.

I think he's making a strong case to play pg.

Ease up there, Burks lover. All I said is what any coach in the league is going to tell him. He plays way too fast and needs to raise his bbiq in order to first take what the defense gives him, and then make the defense give him what he wants. Catching and driving full speed ahead isn't going to cut it with talent alone. He needs to get handles and get his wits about him.

Check yo Burks shelf life.

Your criticism of burks is correct... however even if he doesn't improve at all he is still as good as cj miles, foye, howard, and bell so he can still be in the league for many years.
So you saying he wont be in the league for very long is incorrect IMO, even though your criticism is correct.

I was wondering if Burks was on the inactive list or something (until he got the last couple minutes of garbage time).

Cut Tinsley, play Foye and Burks at the backup guard spots.

I'd also like to see Milsap come off the bench and Favors start, but that's another topic.

Bump

Based on what has developed, it appears to me that the Jazz are trying to convert Burks from a shooting guard to a point guard. And obviously he has a long way to go, so maybe that's why they were sitting him on the bench to study the position and then slowly start to break him in ... of course I'm speculating and it may just have to with Mo being out and Watson playing so poorly.

I wish he'd get back in the habit of getting to the rim more often.
He's been taking too many mid-range jump shots and those shots are the worst to take in the NBA.

Good thing he's making them but he needs to get back to what made me like him so much.

injuries have forced ty's hand re: burks. reports elsewhere (other jazz forums) suggest he had burks on a short leash last season (locke has alluded to this in the past with that whole "too cool for school" line). if it wasn't for mo going he'd probably still be riding the pine despite putting his head down and working this off-season. the same reports suggest management aren't happy with burks' lack of playing time.

mo's injury may be a blessing, though. giving him the responsibility of playing the 1 means he thinks pass first. takes a little bit of that recklessness out of his game, outside of junk time, obviously. he and gordon work well together. gordon generally seems to like getting his fellow young'ns involved.

the movement to dual ball-handlers in the nba right now works in burks' favor i reckon. even when mo returns, he'd better get decent minutes. mo relinquishing some pg duties would open up his scoring some, too.

Bump.

Burks has pretty much silenced all the critics now.

Someday we'll laugh at the fact that a washed up Tinsley played instead of Burks for half the season. And while it was happening, Tinsley had one of the worst stretches in his career, going several weeks without making a 3 pointer (and possibly without making a fg at all during a long stretch).

It's clear now that between Foye, Hayward, and Burks they don't need Tinsley to bring the ball over half court, immediately pass it to someone else, and then back out of the play and never touch the ball again (which is all Tinsley did the first month of the season).

Exactly Salty.
It was obvious to us that Foye and Burks could bring the ball up, and start the offense. Who knew it would even be as good as it is.
Having two good passers on the court makes more sense than ever when you actually see it.

Ty may be doing it now, but his hand was forced.
We wanted this before Mo went down.

Finally, His Deliciousness is free.

Take a sigh of relief, everyone. The wait is over.
