Gülenist NBA player Enes Kanter disowned by family for ties with FETÖ

Haha... sometimes I wonder if 'comedic writer' is a more suitable career for you.

It's true that I'm hilarious. But I'm also amazing at so many other things, so it's a tough choice.

Like I said, his take on religion is very normal. But this is a Wikipedia entry, not an in depth analysis of what he's all about.

Also wasn't Okur openly against the current Turkish government as well, and is in favour of a more progressive & secular state?

I mean Kanter is not the most diplomatic person, hence his comments may have come across as 'ridiculous', but what if he had said it in a more diplomatic way?

Okur is a "Kemalist", if you will. He supports the the principles of Atatürk like secularism or reformism.

It's more like left side of the middle.

What a mess. I have seen the spill over here in Germany. Some families were moved from Turkey bases to Germany.
We should get the hell out of there.

As much as I dislike Kanter the death threats, and this personal situation are tough. Enes did a lot of good things
over the summer visiting children all over the world. I just wish he didnt sell us out so hard, or at least
be more respectful on his way out.

Again, sacrifice doesnt mean he is going out and killing them in the name of his religion. It just means he is willing to sacrifice their support. I also somehow doubt his family is anti-Guilen. They might be saying so to safe face in Turkey, but they sent Kanter to Guilen funded private schools in America.

He also changed his name to Guilen, so that might be what he means by sacrificing his family, by abandoning the Kanter name.

Right or wrong I can admire an athlete for standing up for what he believes in.

He changed his name? His name is now enes guilen rather than enes kanter?

The one thing that smells funny is that ISIS has used a simple strategy in Iraq and Syria. That is to create civil war, confusion, and from there generate support and attention. The Iraq war was the jump off point for al zarqawi who proceeded to make the public angry. He attacked his own people and sacred buildings constantly to confuse and upset the public. They did the same thing in Syria. Turkey is 3 hours from Aleppo folks. I would imagine that they would love unrest in Turkey and they would sponsor civil war there as well.

Ugly stuff. I don't know anything about gulen, but I have studied out the history of ISIS and their leaders and causing political unrest is their trademark.

Not saying anything about Kanter here. Just that opportunists a few hours south would love a political rats nest in turkey.

Dissapointed human...

And then he immediately went on to say he'd also sacrifice his own head. I don't think he meant he's willing to sacrifice the support of his own head, lol.
