Game 4 Reaction

That's going to take some work. Isn't he about 28% on off-the-drib 3's this season?

Yes, but he has good mechanics and is a quick study. Before this year he never finished off of one foot... we've seen him fix that and many guys never figure that out... DM was like let me work on this during the weekend.

He gets clean looks because guys back off... I think he could get quite good at it.

Good points. That's still a big jump, though. 10%? Have we seen other guys do that? I know DM is a quick study, has a good shot already. But has a 10% jump happened?

Harden went from 34 to 39 this year... not sure what he was when he came in the league. So 38-39 is really elite. He was actually a shade over 29% this year. So say he goes from 29 to 35ish... that opens up a lot... if he becomes elite over a couple years then he's an offensive nuclear weapon of mass destruction.

Kemba Walker may have made that kind of jump... I don't have the data when he was a rookie. He's a friggin hard worker too and shot 30% as a rookie... not sure how good he was on pull up threes, but DM being 40%+ on catch and shoot threes, good FT shooter, and great mechanics... A 10% jump is lofty, but I wouldn't put it past him. More likely a 5% jump, but even then 34-35% is where Harden has been most of his career. Given how crappy our offense is (at times) a 34-35% 3 pt. attempt is great.

Couple thoughts:

1. Exum is not getting $10 mil per. Not from us, not from any team, especially in this cash strapped year.
2. Agree with Neto coming back - he's cheap and that's really all that matters.
3. I'd move Burks as an expiring for a stretch four on a good contract, but we would probably need to take on some bad salary as part of a deal. None of the other expendable pieces really matter to me if they come back; I'd rather deal them for some more youth if anything.
4. I think DL will position this franchise to be a true elite contender maybe 2-3 years down the road. I know that sounds weird, but our core will be in their prime at that point while the GSW/HOU of the world will look kind of like the Cavs right now consisting of 30 year-olds with declining games.

1. I agree. $10 would be my absolute max. If we got him for a Crowder type deal ($7ish and below the full MLE), I think it will be viewed as one of the best contracts in the league in a couple years.
2. If we can keep Neto at $1.8, it's good business.
3. Burks and the 3 non-guaranteeds combine for $23.5 million of either expiring or non-guaranteed deals. That's a massive savings for teams needing to dump contracts. We could do a massive deal or multiple small deals.
4. I completely agree. If we got aggressive enough, I think we could contend next year. Houston is not sustainable. Capella will get major money. Ariza needs re-signing. Paul needs a new deal. And when they get beat down by Golden State, it will all crumble. Golden State will be dominant, but we can challenge them. We just have to be aggressive and get another great piece.

GSW won't be able to afford Klay after next year.

They can afford it because there is no hard cap. When you have all the on court and off court success they've had, the money rolls in. Their tax bill will absolutely suck in 2019-20, but Iguodala's $17+ comes off after that. Draymond actually comes off that same summer of 2020. I could see them saying goodbye to Draymond in 2020 rather than Klay in 2019.

Klay likes where he is in the role he has. He only looks to leave if the Warriors were to go on some decline, not be contenders and he is given a lesser role. I don't think any of that happens by 2019.

In my opinion the injury does not hurt exum's value at all, after showcasing his defense this series, a lot more teams would be looking at him.

As others have pointed out expiring and non guaranteed contracts leave Jazz in an OK position, is it time to take a risk on a big name trade being very close to a top 4 team already?

Offer Rubio 4/65 and Favors 4/35. Match Exum up to 4/30.

I really don’t think other teams are jumping at the last two. Christ, look at the bargain that is Lou Williams. There are more productive, healthier players out there to be had for the little money teams do have to spend. As far as Rubio, I don’t see him getting some big deal next summer for a multitude of reasons and I think he loves playing under Quin and isn’t hung up on money.

Unless he Durant's it. Or Duncan's it. Or whoever else has taken less than what they could get in order to go to/remain with a contending team.

KD will get monster max. If GSW want to get cheap on Klay then they will trade him before he expires. They likely pay the tax and trade off Iggy before they decline to give Klay the max. The following year I’ll bet they let Green walk if he gets a huge offer.

If Exum gets a long term deal it will either be a home run or a deal that hurts our cap space... I don’t think there is an in between there.

Favs is going to have a rough market and I think he comes back on a one year deal. I don’t think Atlanta will sign him... they are likely drafting a big (unless they get Doncic).

Phoenix maybe? I don’t see the team that wants him and offers the full MLE.

I think Dante may find a really limited market. Atlanta is the big one there... complete rebuild and have space. I don’t see them going more than 4/40 though.

We need to keep about 35M open for 2019... we may have to let Ricky walk to get there.

I think we're locked on to Ricky. I think that's a good thing, too. Hard to find a PG of his quality, with some upside yet, who really loves being here.

If this is true we should extend him this offseason. Doubt he gets more than his cap hold (22M in 2019). If he is in and wants to be here hopefully he'll take a slight discount for the security.

One guy I'd be all for getting if he declines his player option is Rudy Gay. Let's say we offer him full MLE for two years... final year a team option or maybe small guarantee... that seems like enough. Start him at PF... he can score in iso and functioned in the SA system. Will be his second year coming off achilles injury so he should improve.

DL gave a 1st for him and Utah went on a tear after he got things figured out and Rudy got back. Hell. Yes. We're. Locked. Onto. Him.

32 year olds rarely improve.
