What's new

Gameday: Jazz hosting Clippers 11/29 7pm (mtn) ROOT

The Spurs win that trade pretty handily. It's Detroit who would cry foul. They still like KCP. The Jazz also don't get much. I guess the argument is that Splitter is a decent defender.

Splitter is vital to their team.

Kanter is a horrible defender who doesn't have reliable 3pt range. They would probably prefer playing Matt Bonner over Kanter.

Corey Jospeh is a better backup PG for them since he plays defense.

KCP sucks and I don't think the Spurs are interested in a 2nd year player who can't crack the rotation when they have much more reliable options.

Not sure why a Championship team wants to give up a key cog to their Championship team in return for a bunch of young guys who are questionable talents.

For as much as Kanter and Burke struggled, I wouldn't get rid of him just to have him gone. If there's not a decent trade to be made, let Kanter play out the season and see what RFA holds. If they have to bench him, then so be it. You have to play defense. He's got to improve at that end, or be replaced. Burke should probably stay as the starter until at least the All Star break. If a good trade opportunity comes available, you jump on it. Otherwise, you play things out and see what pieces you can add to your core of Favors, Hayward and Exum. Burks is, at worst, a solid 6th man and Gobert/Hood both have long term potential as well. This year is going to be about growing pains. You worry more about the guys who go backwards, and less about the guys who improve before the end of the season. I'm not sure how Burke and Kanter fit into the long term plans, but they're both still young enough that they can be valuable pieces off the bench before you have to just dump them.

Yeah, I think trade value for Burke will peak in his 3rd year, same with Gobert.

Not if they don't show signs of improvement. If Trey continues to show signs that he's at or near a ceiling, then his trade value drops.

Gobert will get better.

A few thoughts....

1) Kanter and Burke were totally worthless out there. Completely and utterly worthless. Kanter's defense was so bad that when he came back for the 2nd quarter I cringed knowing the lead was going to balloon back up. And I'm not even sure why Burke was out on the court.

2) Can anyone on this team learn how to hit a ****ing free throw? It's a four point game if they hit all their FTs. It's pathetic how bad they are for being professionals, and while Hayward had a spectacular game today his FT shooting lately has been abysmal.

3) Wish Burks would drive to the basket more than settle for these stupid 19 footers with like 15 seconds left on the shot clock. Granted he can make a few of those, but I hate that sort of possession in general.

4) I hate Crawford so much. Not because he seems to hit shots against the Jazz (well partly that), but because I've never seen a player flop so much after a shot and constantly get rewarded for it. Guess I should hate the dumbass incompetent refs who keep falling for it.

5) Is there something in the water in the Jazz broadcasting booth that makes these people blind to seeing what a 3 point shot is? On Crawford's last shot in the first half they kept yacking about a 3 point shot at first, even though he didn't just have a foot on the line, but he was like 3 feet inside the circle. It's comical how bad Brown/Boler/Harp are at this.

6) Overall I still like Quinn, but damn him for putting Burke and Kanter back in when the Jazz finally gained momentum. Frankly I would bring Kanter off the bench unless he was killing it in the 1st quarter. Speaking of the first quarter....if it weren't for that quarter the Jazz actually won the last 3. Unfortunately that means jack when you get slaughtered in the 1st.

One thing I noticed about Burks midrange game is that he is pretty good when he takes his 1-dribble pull ups. His problem is when he overdribbles without a plan and takes an off-balance shot.

Favors is getting a pass also.He doesn't play with fire consistently or play tough D or score or stay in the game.He is a good hider because of our other mongrels playing inconsistent.Snyder talks about playing with juice but other than screaming wake up wake up hasn't been able to install it in any of the players consistantly.

Snyder can't do everything. Mark my words Snyder will be a great head coach. This is a young team that's still learning how to approach games. A team with solid vets will win you more games yes, but we're looking at this long term. Did you guys expect us to kill it in our 1st proper rebuild year? Heck no. Keep calm and believe.

We've had 3 years of rebuilding, this is the 4th year. People hate on Corbin, but he developed players and understood their limitations. His only crime in player development was never using Hayward/Favors correctly, but he was pretty much spot on with Kanter/Burks.
