What's new

My one complaint with Rose is that he doesn't use his JC background to his advantage. What happened to the Mike Halls/Terrel Lyday/Sylester Rivers/Keyna Young/Rashoun Brodus/Araujo/Luis Lemes type talents that BYU used to get from there? The answer is they don't even try. BYU only uses the JC schools when they have some kind of outlier event now, ala the Mike Lloyd situation where they have to get somebody late and all that's left is the Lamount Morgans/Archie Rose/ Logan Mags/Stephen Rogers of the world. Although Rogers is probably going to be decent.

I would fill half the team with JC guys if I coached at BYU.

I don't think BYU should have half the team from a JC.
They still need players that will play 4-5 years there, even if broken up by a mission.
It's tough to learn to play together in 2 years, because it is the 3rd and 4th years that most players will be really productive in a system.
If it's all JC guys, you lose that. BYU should use a couple of JC guys to give them some athleticism, and to fill in the gaps.

Lack of depth really caught up to the Cougars.

Something that many people don't want to discuss.... BYU has more elements to its programs than most other universities.

How damn good is this team if they would have had Haws (mission) and Davies (honor code)?

How good would this team have been had Collinsworth not been injured all year long?

How different would things have worked out had they offered Tai Wesley (Mckelley's bro, who did g2 BYU) a scholarship instead of walking on? Thanks Cleveland...

Man, you sure seem to love doing this "what if" thing in regards to BYU basketball. It seems you've made many posts in the past lamenting these very same "if's" over and over again. Before you think I'm "hating" too much, let me say that I agree with you. If all of the "if's" you consistently bring up had worked out in BYU's favor, there's a pretty damn good possibility they're at least playing for a National Championship this year. Problem is, none of those things happened for BYU and constantly bringing up "if" this and "if" that is just silly and quite frankly, a little sad.

"If" Urban Meyer had stuck around @ Utah and "if" Alex Smith, Paris Warren and Steve Savoy had chosen to stay with him, Utah probably would have started out in the 2004- 2005 Pre-Season Top 5 (if not higher) and could have concievably made the most realistic run at a championship that we've ever seen from a Non-BCS school. However, none of that happened, so any Ute fan that subscribes to that line of thinking should be beaten. Badly.

I think I made it clear in my post that BYU has a lot of variables to deal with.

I don't consider Urban Meyer giving up millions to stick with Utah on the same level as Davies being suspended for having sex with his girlfriend.

For one, no one in hell would give up millions to stick in Utah. While hardly any college athlete doesn't have sex.
Secondly, BYU easily could have postponed the suspension for a few weeks. This really isn't out of the realm of understanding. Even for avg members the "punishment" for breaking the commandments can come weeks after the actual confession.

Of course, this type of thinking involves some level of objectivity. But why have that? We all know BYU sucks, Utah is going to win the PAC-12, Jordan wynn is amazing, Alex Smith is going to be MVP, and that Jimmer is going to be out of the NBA in 2 years and working at a car dealership.

Thriller, once again you've taken a post in an entirely different direction by ranting and raving about things I never said. Case in point:

I actually think Dave Rose is a great coach who has built a very strong program and have said so before. How you get "BYU Sucks" out of that is beyond me. I don't think Utah is going to win the Pac-12 this year, Jordan Wynn is far from amazing (in fact, he scares the living **** outta me), Alex Smith will be lucky to be starting next year let alone ever earning an MVP and I've said time and time again that Jimmer will probably find a niche as a role player in the NBA and stick around for a few years.

When crying for some objectivity, perhaps you should start with yourself.

Yet, you've put such an effort in discussing this! LOL

Why you feel that people think that Jimmer is going to be a mix of nash, Lebron, and Kobe is beyond me.

EVERYONE and their dog talks about Jimmer as a mid-first round pick. Yet nearly everyday you find posts and quotes bashing the man.

Relax dude, relax. IF we take him in the mid-first round it's not a big deal. Most mid first rounders suck anyway. *cough Kirk Snyder and Ronnie Brewer* This draft is weak and will only become weaker if a lockout looks probable.

Judging from the Jazz's terrible shooting and probably mid first round draft position, I wouldn't be angry at all with the selection of Jimmer. We aren't going to be able to move up very high with this pick and we'll probably be unable to trade it really anyway.
