General NBA Craziness and How it Applies to Utah

Relax... it came from enough sources that I believe it to be true.

Also, players lie all the damn time... maybe lie is strong... they say stuff they don't mean. What is he supposed to say? "We talked about contracts, but I'm about to get paid... 90M eff that I'm getting 130". PG was talking up how he is happy in Indiana and is a Pacer... yada yada... this week the narrative changes.

For what it is worth I though Hill would have a ton of options, but now it has shrunk... had he extended already it would help us retain Hayward.

I could see him getting less than he was offered for sure.

Players lie all the time, but reporters are reliable. That's what you're going with?

Regardless, you believe what you want. I have zero doubts that money was part of the reason he turned down the extension, but I also have no doubts that keeping his options open on where he was going to play out the last years of his career was a key reason. I believe if Hayward had committed to Utah, there's a good chance Hill would've taken the extension.

Anyway, even if you want to assume Hill's agent advised him not to take the extension, these decisions are made on playing the odds. Had Hill not been injured and continued to play like he had to start the season, nobody can say it was a bad bet. There's always chances that other teams will make trades, or the player gets injured, but it seems kind of silly to me to blame an agent for things like that happening.

If you play the odds and the odds go against you, I just don't understand the line of thinking that someone is too blame for not having their crystal ball shined up enough to see the future.

I only see one possible trade for the Jazz to get a All-star Caliber player in a trade and that is Paul George. It is risky but its not that big of assets that we would give up and those assets would not set us back much if at all if he leaves. The risk is pretty low and the reward is super high. This is a no brainer. We are not getting Lillard, Butler, Love or Porz. We dont have what those teams want.

I think Love is attainable by facilitating getting George to Cleveland.

God I hope lebron doesn't ever go to the Lakers, it's literally the only he could ever do to make me become an LBJ hater.

I would expect the Jazz to offer less because before they were benefiting by moving some of the cost to this year. So if the demand for Hill has gone down, the health concerns for Hill have gotten worse, and the relative cost of the previous offer has gone up, then I don't see why the Jazz would extend the same amount of money. This was a mistake by Hill.

We will see. If Hayward is still up for grabs, I'm sure DL will be playing hardball with Hill. You know, to teach him a lesson.

I also think it's possible that if we lose Hayward, Hill ends up in SA, and glad to be there, regardless of losing some money.

I really doubt that Hill lost anything by keeping his options open. Utah will still likely offer him the same deal they did before.

WHY? Hill has little leverage right now unless Hayward says he wants Hill back, Hill's agent was dreaming when he was talking about Hill getting a big payday. If Hill hadn't gotten hurt he would most likely get a substantial raise but now the Jazz will let the market determine his price and right now the market seems to have dropped for his services.

Let's say that Utah offer him the exact same deal, I think it's much more likely now that he takes that deal now that other options are beginning to dwindle around him (Brooklyn, 76ers, ... ).

Please if you are a Jazz fan stop trying to help out the Lakers.
If you're referring to me... Here is my master plan:

Lakers send us Deng and Ingram to build around PG, CP3, Ball and pieces hoping for LBJ next year.

We get a future superstar to put with Gobert and Hayward long term.

Cleveland finds a way to weasel Butler from Chicago. They upset GS, LBJ stays.

Lakers do well but don't contend. Cleveland and Lakers get old while we hit our peak. We eventually take over GS and win a title.

Go Jazz

First off, Hill was playing at an all-star level to start off the season, so his agent wasn't dreaming. Had he not been injured and continued playing the way he was, he certainly could have been looking at a big deal with an extra year. That extra year is a big deal. Secondly, as I've already explained, I don't believe it was just a money issue, and that he wanted some control over possibly playing for a contender.

Like I said, if Hayward is still a question mark and you have a chance to sign Hill, you don't start trying to get cute with negotiations. If Hayward re-signs and suddenly nobody is offering anything for Hill, that's a different story. The problem with that theory is that Hill is not purely a PG. He's a good 2-way player that can play either guard spot.

Anyway, I'm tired of this debate. I'm more than happy to wait and see what happens.
