George Hill coming to Utah

GHill is a really good pickup for the Jazz guard crew,he'll be a good complimentary player .But the last two years Indiana is only one game over 50%.
It makes for a good sound byte,"Jazz want to win now" but they finished only two games under .500 with Exum,Burks,Favors and Gobert hurt for all season and major parts of the season.It doesn't take much imagination to think Jazz could have been 10 games plus in the win column with a healthy team.
So I think a healthy Exum,Burks,Gobert,Favors gets Jazz "winning" moreso than the trade for GHill.
 
Reading this thread people would think Teague is a non-shooting PG who can't defend none of which are true.

Teague shot %40 from 3 on 3.5 attempts. Both are career-highs. Same Percentage with Hill albeit with slightly fewer attempts. Teague also got the line more and shot better from there. Teague suffered from being the only guard that can handle the ball in the starting line-up. Him with Hayward wouldn't have that problem.

One of Jazz's problems offensively was penetration. It's why defenses could focus on Hayward so much. We need someone besides Hayward that can get into the paint and break down the defenses. Teague can get wherever he wants on the court and has a pretty good vision. He can run the pick and roll, penetrate and kick out and score inside. He would take so much load of off Hayward.

One of Hayward's best attribute is that he can play off-ball as well as he can play on-ball. Teague would give him some off-ball looks from three which would seriously reduce the predictability of our offense and increase Hayward's 3pt FG.

On defense, Hill can be better but Teague isn't some Lillard either. He was part of a very good defensive team that really didn't have elite defensive players last year. Teague held opposing PG's to %38.3 shooting, in pick and roll he held ballhandles to 0.69 points per possession the year before. He was also playing with a bad knee this year(which is a concern by itself) but if he can heal through that it's not unimaginable that he would reach those numbers with Gobert and Fave behind him.


P.s this isn't to say I don't like the trade at all. I love it and don't mind Hill over Teague. It's just Teague was getting crushed here and I had to say how Teague would help us.

DL should have gotten Hill much cheaper and STILL had a chance on getting a player with tremendous upside at #12, especially with a couple of players who slipped. He tried to trade back in, but couldn't. That's because he panicked and gave away the #12 when he probably could have played hardball and insisted on swapping picks with Atlanta and throwing in a couple of seconds.

Both Teague and Hill are good players. Hill is the better fit for Utah, but even if some fans can't agree with that, they should understand that Utah didn't want to give up a lottery pick for someone who would likely leave in a year.

Do a Google search for top pg guards in the nba.
I looked at 4 different lists. 3 has teague ahead of hill and 1 had hill ahead of teague.
They were always really close to each other.

Yeah I think Hill is the better player, even regardless of fit but it's not like it's some wide margin.

It's one of those situations where the causal fan see's all star appearances and Google's assist numbers to determine who is better and who is not and luckily GM's (well at least our GM) does not think that way.

Exactly. It's not insanity to prefer teague to hill.
It's not like anyone is saying they prefer adam keefe over lebron or something.
 
Hill is a great pick up and giving up our draft pick in a watered down draft was a risk, but a good risk to take. We've desperately needed to add depth especially at the PG position and we did that. The biggest risk that you could argue is that George Hill is a UFA after this season and signing with the Jazz would be unlikely in that we will probably lose him, come end of season. Greg Popovich has always said great things about him after they were unable to retain him. Should benefit the jazz this season at least
 
We are still betting on Exum. I think they realize Hill works better with Exum. I see them playing together, and Hill
being a second string if and when Exum explodes. Teague has to be the man, and would not sit for Exum.
