What's new

George Hill named Western Conference Player of the Week

im stoked for hill (21/6/3)

but that said...

westbrook put up 28/8/6 in the same week
lillard put up 30/4.5/4
davis 22/11/3
harden put up 34/14/7!!!

couldve easily been any of those guys

is it because of the quality wins? i dont know how the judging works

I know. Being actually reasonable around here makes me kind of a hipster.

No, he responded like that due to the fact you act like it was just a given the Jazz would get a guy like Hill who would put up those type of numbers. So you're telling us competent and confident point guards with George's skill set is a dime a dozen in this league? And they'd mesh as well has Hill has? George Hill has been a godsend for this team. A guy who can run the offense, be aggressive, hit clutch shots, not turn the ball over and also knows when to take a step back when its time to let Hayward and Hood run the show and not have his ego crushed? Plays great D? Literally a perfect pickup with what was actually on the market

Dude, Jeff Teague is an All Star. ALL STAR!!! Don't be stupid. . .

Jeff Teague was an all star in the East, so you have to put an asterisks by that. He wouldn't sniff the All star game in the West. I honestly didn't know enough about either of them to have an opinion about which was better. It does seem Hill is better for the Jazz though. He continues playing close to this level, he would easily be an all star in the East. Unfortunately the West is just loaded at PG with Curry, Westbrook, Paul, Lillard, and if you wanted to you could include Harden. He could continue how he played last week and not make the All Star game.

George Hill was in that same Eastern Conference and wasn't an all star. So,... what's your point again?

George Hill is also playing much better in this system (at least so far). My point is that Hill in Utah just might be better than Teague would have been in Utah, despite Teague having made an all-star game.

Also, just pointing out that Teague may make the All Star game, while Hill doesn't this year, it doesn't mean that Teague is better this year.

Thank you for making this point. I've been busy and haven't been able to get on the internet this week but when I heard George Hill won player of the week my first thought was what about Westbrook, Harden, Davis, and everyone else in the West. I've been confused as to why Hill won. It must have just been a recognition award, not necessarily best player of the week award.

@LogGrad - We all understand the Jazz needed a quality point guard. But can you take a deep breathe and admit that George Hill is playing better than anyone imagined? I think he's off to a great start and I'm pretty sure he won't be able to sustain it, but I'm gonna focus on the great start and enjoy the moment. It's a small victory, Jazz fans haven't been able to celebrate them for a while. Go ahead. Let yourself revel in the fact that George Hill has been FANTASTIC and a HUGE win for the Jazz. I promise, we'll let you do that without having to eat any crow. (That will come later on in the season...;))

Maybe the voters just really hate turnovers, losers and bad defense.

My hell!! Just because someone puts up the best stats, led the mean they performed better. With that Pontic LBJ would win it every week.

Hmm, now that you mention it do we really know Hill's thumb is hurt? He could just be pouting because Hayward is back. Yeah...or not.

I already mentioned that. He is playing far better than anyone expected, and I am loving it. But can anyone admit that maybe this team wasn't assembled by a council of Gods in heaven and just maybe that other pieces could have done just as well or better given the same circumstances? It is like talking to religious zealots here sometimes. Does anyone seriously think that given the status of our PGs and the lack of leadership due to injuries to key players that just about ANY established starting point guard would NOT have come in here and made an immediate difference, barring injury? Maybe they wouldn't have done exactly what Hill did but I am pretty sure that any established veteran point guard would have come in and been right there among our best players from the get-go simply by default. I am glad it was George Hill, I think for the beginning of the season he is playing terrific ball, but it wasn't divine intervention for hell's sake.
