BYU is not Notre Dame and Utah is not USC that is why they can't play, that game was "grandfathered" in and as has been said almost all U fans would like to continue the rivalry. However playing such an emotional rivalry and having to beat a team 3x in one game can be draining so the administrative people worry about the hang over because the following week is the first conference PAC12 game.

However I suppose the U could ask the same as what the Y did of Utah state in the past and play two at home for every road game and then some years not play at all, I'm sure the Y wouldn't mind or complain about being treated the same as they treated Utah State..... oh wait.

BYU is willing to do a 2 for 1 with Arizona...

Yes, yes, who?, who?, maybe, lololololololol

Why the lol about taysom hill.
He showed more in his limited time on the field than Wilson did
In fact I think that hill is undefeated as a starter...... what is wilsons record again?

I pay zero attention to byu except for when we play them.

I was under the impression hill would be a true freshman this year.

Honest question:

Is taysom hill the running qb from last year or is that a different guy?

There are so many other examples too.

Georgia vs Georgia Tech
Florida vs FSU
Stanford vs Notre Dame
USC vs Notre Dame
Iowa vs Iowa St.
Mich St. vs Notre Dame
Clemson vs South Carolina
Michigan vs Notre Dame
Pitt vs West Virginia
Kansas vs Mizzo

The truth is, Utah now sees how much of a struggle it is to play in the Pac-12 and wants to limit its losses. That's fine. It makes sense. But then again, think FSU or Georgia Tech or Pitt want to keep getting their heads kicked in? What does Georgia have to gain by playing Georgia Tech? Nothing to gain but everything to lose as they already play in the toughest football conference around.

If BYU sucks as bad as you all say, then it'll be a piece of cake. If BYU is a good team, then you'll win even more recruits/attention by beating down a potential BCS buster. The only reason why you'd walk away is if you know BYU is a quality program and fear losing to them. Especially if you're already going to suck and have your asses handed to ya in your own conference.

The truth is, Utah needs to do something for the fans. Some folks value tradition and rivalry. It's what makes sports great. Stop being asses and keep the Holy War going. I'm not being a hater. I'm just spitting the truth. Keep the rivalry going. That's what college sports is all about.

If Utah is the little brother, why is BYU whining and complaining about Utah not wanting to play them anymore? Wouldn't the big brother go off and do bigger and better things?

Or are you not satisfied with all the 2 for 1's and one and done's that you are getting? A little bit angry because Utah is the only decent team that will do 1 for 1's with you? Well, I think you guys shot yourselves in the foot with the Utah series with your 2 for 1 with Arizona.

Ya he is the big running qb (riley nelson was the little running qb)
He looks almost like a linebacker (very well built) and runs like a wide reciever (a byu wide receiver anyways, but still fast for a qb)
I hear he is a pretty good passer as well (which his high school highlights videos seem to confirm).... he didn't get a lot of opportunities to show whether or not he truly is a good passer cause our playcalling sucked last year.

In all honesty I think its a toss up between hill and wilson cause they are both so young and neither offensive coordinator on either team has allowed thier guy to really chuck the ball around. (Partly because john white and jamaal Williams were pretty good backs)

Get off your lil/big brother schtick. That's all fun and games when we're talking trash. But I'm not in the mood right now.

Clearly, this rivalry should continue. It's what the fans want, it's what's best for the 2 schools, it's what college football is all about. And no, it's shouldn't be 2 for 1's. Mano a mano. One year we play in Provo. The next, up in Salt Lake.

Make it happen Dr. Hill.

Hill is definiteley a good weapon, but he doesn't seem like an every down QB. Guess we will see.

Who is the qb that is coming to byu that people have been hyping? I got him confused with hill.

A quick position by position breakdown:

QB: Wilson over Hill. Hill hasn't proven anything yet. This may change in two years, but right now, Wilson is better. Last year, Hill had 59% completion, 4 TD's, 2 INT's against AWFUL competition. Wilson had 62.7% completion, 7 TD's and 6 INT's against much better competition.
HB: York over Williams. Their stats are similar. York had better competition, and is a bigger back.
FB: none, I'm going with 3 WR's.
WR's: Anderson (36 rec, 10.1 avg, 3 TD's), Scott (32 rec, 11.3 avg, 3 TD's), Hoffman (If you take out Idaho and New Mexico State, 68 rec, 84 avg, 3 TD's)
TE: Murphy
OL: Who cares? I do know that both of Utah tackles project as NFL guys, and Utah actually develops their linemen into NFL caliber players, while BYU's OL regress, so at least the tackle spots are won by Utah.
DE: Orchard and Reilly are much better than anything BYU has. I think someone said that Kaufusi is better than any of Utah's ends...they are crazy. It's not even close here. Utah's ends are heads and shoulders better than BYU's.
DT: Palepoi (when Kyle says you are a top DT in the PAC-12, you are. Kyle just turns out NFL DT's.) Manumaleuna is a nice player, but I would put him on equal footing with Utah's other DT's. So we will say push for the second T spot.
LB: KVN...who knows after that. Utah doesn't spend enough time at this position, and BYU doesn't look to have another NFL LB'er on their squad.
DB: McGill, Rowe, Orphey, Carter, Smith, Blechen, Thomas are all better than anyone on BYU's roster. Sorenson is nice, but I'd take Blecken, Rowe or Carter over Sorenson.

So, if you combined the two teams, I would have two BYU players that are clearly better than Utah players: KVN and maybe Hoffman. BUT, I'd still have Hoffman as my third receiver. The dude just disappears in big games. Hoffman is awesome...until you get into the red zone, then he disappears. That is not ok for a guy as big as he is. He should dominate in the red zone. His TD numbers aren't anywhere good enough for someone that is supposedly a first round pick (BYU fan dreaming again).

LOL!

Hilarious!

Hoffman is easily the best WR in the entire state and you'd like to have him as your 3rd receiver? He disappears in big games? Huh?

Wow

Some folks wouldn't know a great receiver if it bit them in the butt. Hoffman still over 1200 yards receiving and 11 TDs despite playing with a left handed fullback at quarterback. Unbelievable.

See what I mean?

What did Hoffman do in big games? And no, Idaho and New Mexico State aren't big games. Against BCS teams, he had 2 TD's. Against Utah, Washington St, Notre Dame, Boise, Utah State, Oregon St, Georgia Tech he had 2 TD's. Oh YES!!!! Talk about BIG TIME performances there. Watch out NFL. Against teams that MAY have ONE NFL DB, he is going to average a whopping 0.29 TD's a game!

Ha ha. Nice one. Once every four games, he might do something good. Clearly, he is the best WR in the state. Clearly.

Proof of BYU fan's silly expectations. Most of those stats came against New Mexico St and Idaho. Therefore he will dominate EVERYONE because he didn't produce against real teams, but man, those lower level WAC teams, HE TOTALLY OWNED THEM!

AWESOME!

You did absolutely nothing to dispute what he did despite playing with a left handed fullback at QB. Just for kicks and giggles, look up Riley Nelson's stats against Utah, Boise St. and Notre Dame. Certainly you're not pinning his poor stats on Cody Hoffman, right?

btw, he had over 100 receiving yards and 1 TD against Utah. Soooooooooo I thought he did nothing about BCS competition?

Cody Hoffman was about 1 of maybe 3 bright spots from BYU last season. There weren't many. But Cody Hoffman was one reason why BYU fans should be excited for this year.

To see the talent gap between Utah and BYU, watch last year's game. Utah had a DII QB, no OL, no LB'ers, and their best offensive player (White) didn't even play.

Nelson fumbled the ball at least 4 times, and was able to recover all but one of those. If those balls bounce any different, we have another 54-10 beat down...and that was against what might have been the worst Utah team since McBride was there. And BYU couldn't beat a depleted team. Every position for Utah should be better, with DL being the only exception, and there are three NFL potential guys starting.

I honestly believe this will be the last game Utah plays against BYU with Whitt as their coach, and I don't think it will be pretty for BYU. The only time BYU has beaten Utah recently has been with an upperclassmen NFL talent QB...and Utah had underclassmen, non-NFL QB's. BYU doesn't have that QB this year. Look at the last three (since Utah announced their PAC-12 membership) games:

17-16 - The savior Heaps vs Wynn with a blown out shoulder. Utah scores 17 in the fourth to win it.
54-10 - Not even close. BYU folded like a mid-major team
24-21 - Utah with no QB, no OL, no RB is up big in the fourth. BYU lucks out with 4 fumbles that they recovered and the worst officiating ever and still can't win. That game could have easily been another 54-10 game.

This year:

Utah has improved at every position.

BYU's QB is brand new, new OL, new OC, their starting DE is 215 lb's, and they lost a lot off their defensive front seven.

I don't get the BYU love at all. Not at all. But then again, I said that before 2011 and I was mocked (there is no way Wynn is better than Heaps, Apo is awesome, best WR in the state, everyone can see that, Juice is awesome as a RB, best BYU freshman RB ever!, we have all these defensive transfers from USC, so much better than Star, blah, blah, blah, BCS bowl, blah, blah, Heisman, blah. I'll get mocked for this, Utah will win, the series will end, BYU will fade as they struggle agains their new semi-tough schedule, and life will go on....and BYU fan will forever whine about Utah dropping them and call Utah little brother while doing so.

Good times.

Probably tanner mangum is who you are thinking of.
He was the jake heaps of the elite 11 quarterback camp thingy last year. (After the heaps debacle, not sure if this a good thing lol)
