Good Alec Burks article from Slam

I liked the Burks pick then and I still do now. This may be a wildly unpopular statement, but I need to see more body of work before I decide whether he's a 'relentless, no-fear, attacking, baller' or simply a guy that lacks the cerebral aspect to know when to go and when not. In other words, is it no fear, or lack of smarts.

I'll duck now.

This is a big season for him. If he steps up, and has the type of growth Hayward, and Favors did it will help everything. He sounds like he
needs, and wants to be part of the core. It's up to him, and the coaches to make that happen.

He won't be the leading scorer off the bench. That will be Millsap, maybe Foye if Corbin doesn't start Favors.

Alec Burks said:
Gordon and Derrick took big leaps during their second year and they became great players. (licks lips) I’m just trying to do the same thing. (licks lips) I want to take what I learned during my first year and become a better player my second year.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I was disappointed in his lack of midrange game. I thought coming out of Colarado that his midrange game was his strength, he needs to develop that part of his game to be a potent offensive player for this team.

I'm excited to see what he does and how he improves this next season.

Truthfully, I would say that about all of the C4 as well as the addition of the Williams' and Foye too.

On a side note, has "Slam" done this with any of our other young core players, or anyone else outside of Williams (DWill)?

Brains are so undervalued around here sometimes. I too worry about his mental capacity.

I wanted the Jazz to pick Burks. I think he has a ton of potential and talent. He needs to sure up his decision-making and get a more consistent jump shot. I think he needs to get a little stronger too. It doesn't matter to me if he starts or comes off the bench but I am concerned that the Jazz will play Foye over him. I like Foye but he is not the future. I think Mo Williams, Hayward, M. Williams, Favors and AJ should start with a bench that would include Foye, Burks, Carroll, Millsap and Kanter. THis would allow Burks to be one of the primary scorers off the bench with Millsap. On the second unit, in time Burks could be the PG and Foye the SG.

Considering that his rookie season was shortened and condensed + he was dealing with a one-dimensional offense that didn't do anything to help him.... well.... I don't see any reason to be concerned with Burks. He will have a good year if he is helped by the offense and allowed to explore is game a little.

Don't need to duck. I got the same impression out of the article. Burks has a lot of swagger. Obviously, he's a lot more talented than Morris Almond or Kirk Snyder (and not crazy), but does Alec have the drive to get better and contniue improving or does he already feel a sense of entitlement re: minutes and starting? Favors and Hayward are NOT great players right now as he stated. What's going to happen if he doesn't win a starting job? Or if he does, but then loses it if/when the lineup gets juggled?

My fear is that Corbin, with a new GM, will be in "CYA" mode and go with the veterans.

Plenty of evidence to support that fear.

Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

If we see another season of washed up vets taking over, I will quit watching the Jazz for good. Not like last time when I quit for half a game. This time is for real.
