Of course we would knock Melo if he was on our team. I definitely would not trade Hayward for him. Wish Jazz still got to see Melo in the playoffs, easiest W Jazz have had in the Deron/Boozer years. Dude isnt a winner. His teams have been in the playoffs almost every year of his career and yet he is what 8 of 10 times he hasnt got out of the first round? He is playing less selfish this year but normally he is just a chucker who doesnt play defense or pass. But of course you arent making the playoffs this year so... Good luck in the Draft, hope you get someone talent to put around Porz. I bet NY wishes it could trade Melo, Porz is the player to build around. Need to get some young talent and a pick or two for Melo. Kind of like the package you traded Denver for him.
Porz on the other hand is a great player. He looks to be a real talent. Glad you guys booed picking him and hated the pick. I am guessing you are one of the people who was pissed they didnt take Hezonja.
Uhh, we still play Gobert who can't shoot outside of 5 feet, Withey who only shoots wide open 15' or less, Booker who can't shoot at all, and Lyles who can only hit corner 3's and midrange. It's not like we have a lot of spacing without Favors playing that opens up regular post ups. We do post up Hayward a fair amount when we are able to get the switches, especially late in the game around the FT line.

Having Hayward on those 97-98 squads would have put the kibosh on the Bulls moving Scotty Pippen over to defend John Stockton. Although I think you get better mileage out of replacing Russel with Hayward. The ball movement between Stockton, Horny, and Hayward with a big like Malone who constantly demanded a double team would have probably beat Jordan both times. Can you imagine Haywards game back in the day of illegal defense? That would have been epic.
If I could play time machine games, however, I would go back and just replace Ostertag with Gobert. Who wouldn't also have wanted to see Gobert on Shaq or Hakeem?

I love Goberts game now but he would have been destoyed by the style of play back then. He is not great at guarding big strong centers who can push him out of the way. He struggles with Cousins, Shaq would wreck him. Shaq would give him a couple bumps and turn and dunk. Gobert could not keep those great bigs out of the paint and getting great position on him.
You named one center in the 90's Gobert would have problems with. Nearly everyone else he could hold his own against.
Hakeem, Ewing, Shaq, Robinson, Kemp, Malone are some of the players that pop in my head he would struggle with. Gobert is not a physical player he doesnt handle being pushed around, he is light and does not have a low center of gravity. He is well suited for todays game but not the 80s and 90s.
Malone didn't play center, it would be weird if he was asked Malone for more than a few possessions.
Hakeem, Ewing, and Robinson are certainly great players and Im not suggesting Gobert would shut them down, but I think he could hold his own against them.

He could do every bit as well against hakeem, ewing, and Robinson as most of the other centers in the league.

Nice try, but you are wrong. My friends and I watched that draft and high fived each other when the Lethal Latvian was picked. It's called out of the box thinking. Why should Phil Jackson (13 championship rings) do what everybody expected him to do and draft some college kid? Nope, Phil Jackson is a champion (13 championship rings) because he is not like everybody else. Thus he picked a Latvian no one really saw before. Phil was right on with his pick. Best draft pick in NBA history. In fact it will change the league forever. No longer are people going to look at a Duke or Kansas or any big college anymore for their pick. Phil showed the world there are better picks out there in small hidden European leagues. That's where the real talent -- ready to play -- can be found.
And us New Yorkers have found out who that crying kid at the draft is. He's a very rich, spoiled little nothing named Jordan. That kid is despised around New York. Kid actually has the balls to wear a Porzingis jersey when he attends Knick games (front row seats no less)! A real piece of garbage that kid is. We know it was his father that told the kid to boo, but the kid should have a mind of his own. That kid made himself the biggest dope in sports history. That'll stay with him forever.

There was a lot of pressure to draft Mudiay I know, who looks to be a possible bust. That would have been catastrophic for the Knicks franchise.
Every knick fan there was booing, NBD. Jazz fans booed the Stockton pick it happens. Lying doesnt look good on ya, just own up and admit it.

All I am saying is the Porzingis pick was out of the box thinking that will change the draft from here on in. Why look to a Butler or a Wichita State when you can get a guy from the Euro league who is all ready NBA ready. Porzingis stepped in to the NBA competing on a high level because he was playing against professional adults in the Euro league. Why pick an Okafor who honed his craft playing against college kids the majority of whom will never become pro basketball players. Porzingis was seasoned already. Playing pro ball against men. In Summer League I knew he was something different, something special. He was already NBA ready.
Look at your own Gobert. No, he is not as impressive as Porzingis is so early in an NBA career, but Gobert is definitely miles above many college draft picks of that year that Gobert was drafted: Michael Carter-Williams, Nerlens Noel, Alex Len, Cody Zeller, Shane Larkin, Tim Hardaway, and of course, Anthony Bennet. Gobert is a far better pick than those college boys. (But to be fair there are a number of college draft picks that year who are above Rudy in the talent department: Oladipo, Steven Adams, Kelly Olynyk, Tony Snell.)

When you try too hard to convince someone your point, the argument really falls off. You end up looking like you're begging for people to agree with you. Carry your opinion with confidence. If people don't like Porzingas then whatever. I'm glad you got him but NYK is the richest franchise with a terrible record. You belong among the ranks with the Lakers.
