Grantland: The NBA's All-Intriguing Team (featuring Derrick Favors)

A "stretch 4"s primary role is to stretch the floor for others. So... I guess maybe you didn't know that.

Actually, I did.

Maybe I used the term too loosely though. I didn't mean it should be his only responsibility, I just meant that he could act as a stretch-4 from time to time (an opportunity he will rarely have if coaches only use him offensively as a 5).

The thing I love most about Kanter is his offensive rebounding, and realize that this is done inside. I am not saying we should forfeit that. I am only saying, Kanter is more well rounded offensively than most big men, and yet we are only planning on using a small fraction of it!? Favors is only really successful at the rim thus far --thus he fits the offensive 5 a lot more. Kanter shouldn't be confined, he should have more freedom to move around (thus spacing the floor).

Please refer to Training Camp thread for more explanation.

To my defense, I said 4 in the Training Camp thread before I said stretch 4. What I mean is: Kanter should be viewed as our 4, because he has the ability to also be a stretch 4, in addition to being the awesome interior player that he is. I've always said I don't want him camped out at the 3, but I want him allowed to go there.

It's been a long day, and sometimes I forget what thread I am in.

Okur was a 5 and he went out to the 3pt line and Boozer, the 4, did not. Could be that the 4 and 5 are the same thing in a flex offense.

Once again, Zach Lowe doesn't watch NBA but reads Jazzfanz and plagiarizes my write-ups on Derrick Favors. I laid out this exact analysis in a discussion when Spycam was calling Favors the best pnr player in the world.

He's also dumber than a sack of doorknobs when he regurgitates Sloan Conference overall mid-range jumper inefficient babble like every possession is equivalent. Pick and pop is a very efficient play when ran by good players. Stockton and Malone made a Hall of Fame career out of it! Does he really think a wide open jumper is so hard that NBA coaches don't bother guarding it, doubling and clogging the paint to force the pass and shot instead?

This is why David Locke>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Zach Lowe. He actually understands the importance of analyzing play types instead of comparing one play to league wide average shooting from a spot on the floor. That and he doesn't plagiarize the hell out of Jazzfanz.

Stretch doesn't have to stretch all the way to three. Kanter already stretches some, just not much yet.

Jazz will run high pick and roll with him. He will need to develop a longer stretch game. He already has one of the best outside pop shooting in the NBA IIRC. Oh wait, Zach Lowe said that's not an efficient shot so let us forget this play all together.

Yes it could be, but those were different days, different coach. I just feel like I can't trust Corbin unless it is all spelled out of for him.

Dennis Lindsey said today that he views bigs as bigs, not PF or C, but depending on math up, as he should. I am unsure what Corbin thinks because so far, there has been no stretching, even though we have someone who could do that (among other things). We've heard talks from DL and KOC about Marvin possibly playing as a stretch 4 this year, but Kanter has a much better touch than he does (once again, not saying I think Kanter should just be a stretch 4). I know that we think that all of our young guys are going to get all the minutes they want this year, but I have to be honest with how it scares me when I hear of people like Marvin possibly filling roles that one of our young guys should fill--because it could be warped as an excuse by Corbin for a reason not to play Favors or Kanter as much ("we had to play Marvin 35 minutes tonight so he could stretch the floor as match up dictated" post game interview).

Maybe I am just a little over anxious and crazy after watching Corbin's rotation **** show last year.
