Hmmm...which one was Live and Let Die then? I definitely remember that car stunt being in the bayou because I recall the fat, white, hick Sheriff in awe.

They brought the sheriff back for The Man with the Golden Gun. He was vacationing.

Just looked up a list and we covered many of the classics. One I didn't see on any lists that I just thought of that was pretty great, and seemingly original to me at the tender age of eight, was the opening chase in the original Beverly Hills Cop. It was more the stunt man holding on to the chain at the back of the rig I think but still, always enjoyed that one.

The original Gone In 60 Seconds (from '73 or '74). Written and directed by H.B. Halicki.

The acting was borderline suicide-inducing, but the 40+ minute car chase through southern California was a phenomenal symphony of seat-of-the-pants driving and automotive destruction.

In distant second, Bullitt. That chase needed to be longer, but SF is, hands down, the best city to watch a car speed through.

Saw Drive. No great chase scenes. Good movie. Great violence. Freidkin would be proud.

Way of the Gun

Very surprised no one mentioned Way of the Gun before me. Maybe it wasn't a popular movie?

Anyway, it starts under the East side of the 1st South Viaduct and proceeds through downtown Salt Lake City. On the other side of the overpass is the Red Iguana, one of the better Mexican restaurants known to man.

I've never actually seen Ronin. I know, it's a pop culture blind spot. One would think given the dishonored samurai title I would have been all over this by now.

Blues Brothers is a good call. Then again, I might just have a soft spot for Minnie the Moocher.

The Matrix is the perfect example of what I was writing about earlier regarding my preference for practical effects. None of the cars in the Matrix sequel appear to have the heft or density of the French Connection's car. Radically reduces the quality of the scene for me.

acutally some of those cars where real. i remember seeing a robotrig driving one of the cars that get flipped. the door pops open and there is no on sitting in it just a rig controlling the car.
so it has some practical effetcs. where it could be done of course
