Mississippi passed a bill to raise the maximum alcohol content of beer to 8%. The previous limit was 5%. Woot woot. Your day will come Utah.

I recall reading that if just one of the handful of states that limit beer to 3.2% AC were to lift this requirement most of the beer makers would quit making 3.2. It just wouldn't be economically feasible for them to continue making this "special" brew.

That was a big reason why Mississippi decided to up the limit from that article I read in the paper. Cited small businesses and breweries would be able to make more money because now they can produce a wider range of beers to export/import and how it would help local economy.

If they stopped making it then Utah would simply not have to worry about beer in Utah anymore. is eriously doubt they would change the law to allow beer.

I've stopped whining about the low alcohol content beer and instead happily give my monies to Epic. Their 825 State is the nectar of the gods.

I have to say that Epic is one hell of a brewery. Yes, the 825s State Stout is one of the better stouts I've had. Thier rye beer is great. Their Mild Ale is one of my wifes favorites. I like Copper Cone and Capt. Crompton's. I really like most of their beers. The exception for me is the Brainless on Peches or whatever it's called. Tasted a lot like barf to me.

Only problem, $3 plus per 22oz beer.

On my last visit, I splurged and bought one of their $12 specials: Big Bad Baptist, or something like that. It's a stout infused with coffee and cocoa and it tasted like someone had combined the leftover beer, coffee, and cocoa into one cup. It was awful and the only thing that made me finish it was that it cost $12 and I was teaching myself a lesson.

I can't even imagine drinking a beer with only 5% AC. Ugh, just terrible. Montana has awesome breweries and our alcohol laws rock. I guess that's what happens when you have 2 of the top 5 drunkest towns in America. Woo-hoo!

There are a lot of beer styles that call for an ABV between 4-5%. I've found in brewing my own beer I like the ABV in my own beers to be between 4-6%. At first I tried to make all my beers with big ABVs, around 7-9%, but I have backed off in favor of better tasting beer.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Cyrone Torbin again.

I totally agree it is awesome that more people will die and more families will be ruined. Huzzah!!!

Do you think higher alcohol percentage beer, from 4%abv to beers that will mostly be in the 5.5% to maybe 6.5% range, is going to cause more deaths and ruined families?

Certain beer styles call for certain ratios of alcohol to malt and alcohol to bitterness and bitterness to malt. When you restrict the alcohol percentage to some silly arbitrary number you make it impossible for actual representations of certain styles to be sold. Good news for budlight I guess.

Alcohol percentage is restricted, yet I can go into 7-11 and buy as many 30 packs of natural light as I want. But I sure can't buy a decent stout at 7-11, cause that would ruin families.
