What's new

Great move by KOC, whats next?

If in fact we are getting Al Jefferson. I'd be for signing Matthews and Harrington. I understand that puts us in the LT but we'd have AK as a fall back plan. We could see how the Jazz are playing with this group. If it looks promising we keep AK around for the year and try to re-sign him. If not we unload him to a team looking for salary cap relief. The Millers did say they'd be willing to pay the LT for a year or two. Maybe this will be one of those years. who know.

Williams,Price,Gaines
Matthews/Miles
Harrington/Hayward
Milsap/Kirilenko/Koufus
Jefferson/Okur/Fes

Anyone wanna figure out what that cap looks like? lol

Nevermind: We can't keep Matthews and get Harrington. my bad.

I think Utah still going after Harrington is a real possibility and I like it. Even with the Jefferson move, we could still use his scoring. I think Utah only signs Harrington if they know they can move AK in a salary dump. I really don't see why New Jersey or New York wouldn't mind taking on AK for a 1 year rental. They could send Utah back a hefty Trade Exception, use AK's services for the year, and be no worse for wear heading into Free Agency next year. Plus, both teams are trying to save face after getting basically shut out of the big 2010 free agent bonanza.

If Harrington was signed, the final minor moves I'd like to see Utah do is:

-Trade AK for picks or TE
-Sign Brewer for cheap.
-Since I see Jefferson playing a lot of 5 I'd still like to see somebody like Tolliver or Amundson brought in to back-up Sap.
-Try and secure a better back-up for Dwill.

no i would rather have ak than harrington. we would get better on offense, but if we trade away ak and if we dont have matthews, we have no defensive presense anywhere in this team

I have to believe were gonna try and move memo. Al is younger and better... memos contract sucks and ny wants a shooting center. I doubt we see any additional moves w/o memo gone.

If we dump Kirilenko will we still have to eat up some of his salary? 17.8 million is a lot for a team to take on for one player not named Gasol

I'd rather keep AK than get Harrington anyways...try to re-sign him next summer to a more reasonable contract. AK is still a very valuable player.

As everyone has mentioned, the Jazz would be done if Jefferson goes through unless they could somehow dump AK. If they drop AK then IMHO, they need to get back a stud 2. If Okur is healthy then the tandem of Memo, Jefferson and Millsap should be competitive. They can throw Doufus out there to hack someone a bit for 10 mins a game or so. What they really need is someone other than D-Will that can create and make outside shots. We know CJ is more of a spot shooter and if Brewer comes back on the cheap then he does a nice job running the baseline, but they need someone who can create their own shot and spread the floor, command some attention even some double teams, etc.

There aren't a lot of guys out there that can do that, but that is what the Jazz need.

I think after this trade they will sign Al Harrington being what is being said on his twitter page. I hope they then go after Anthony Tolliver and maybe midway towards the deadline trade ak to see if you can get a first round pick. I think they are going to use their other trade ex soon as well. Being it is almost up.

If that happened...wow, just wow. To go from the "sky is falling, we're a sure lottery team" to perhaps fighting for the 2 seed in the WC?
If we got both Al's, I think we'd probably sign Ronnie B. and call it a day. I don't see how the Jazz re-sign Matthews. The MLE would have to be used for Harrington and Brewer. Jazz would obviously keep AK at SF. I say retain AK until the deadline. That gives 1/2 season for Hayward to develop. AK/Hayward share time at SF. CJ and Brewer divide minutes at SG.

Then at the deadline, you try to trade AK for a starting wing, and hopefully take back less salary than what you trade to get you under the tax threshold.

Big Al basically puts us at the tax line with 9 guys. That's with Fes dropped out. So we need 3 mins, which puts us 1 - 1.5 over the Tax, and then the last guy. It has to be a wing since we only have 3. If they're willing to go 5/6 over, they can sign Wes. If they want to keep costs down, they go bargain basement. Since they said they'd do 2 years in the tax if necessary, I'll bet they'd consider Wes. I think it comes down to whether they like Wes' whole deal more than whether they can fit him in.
