What's new

Great move by KOC, whats next?

Yeah, 3 million over the tax with 9 players is a concern.

11-12 is a concern salary wise, though not nearly as bad as Matthews + Boozer would be.

I wonder if Memo is indeed the odd man out and may get traded. I don't know if the Jazz are THAT willing to go into the tax again.

I can't imagine anyone trading for Memo right now... recovering from a ruptured achilles, an injury that he may or may not come all of the way back from.

As to what next?, I'd be contented if the Jazz just got a decent outside shooting wing who is above average on defense. They can call it an offseason. But if they have something bigger lined up like trading AK and getting someone like Al Harrington, then even better. Assuming that they dont match Mathews, they lost two guys in Korver and Mathews who shot well from 3-pt range last year. That's what they need to fix next.
Suddenly, after possibly getting a 20/10 guy like Jefferson for 42 mil, 35 mil for Mathews looks too much. It always looked a little high, but now it looks obscene. I am aware of the length of the contracts, but still..

Just realized that other than Deron, the 3 guys making the big bucks on the Jazz next year-Jefferson, AK and Okur, would all come with an injury history. That makes me a bit nervous.

Find a sucker for AK, and sign a good wing, that would be close to a perfect offseason.

i dont like harrington for ak swap. we would lose too much on the defensive side. yeah harrington on the paper looks better but on the court we would be worse because ak brings intangibles and defense harrington cant bring

There's no way Matthews is coming back now. We need a 4th wing. That's the last move. Probably going to be from the bargain bin. We have to accept the tax at this juncture, with the idea AK could get dealt at the deadline to avoid it. Brewer/Brown/Barnes. I'd take Brewer, but I'm sure LOTS of people will disagree with me.

Let me be the first to disagree. I would rather have Brown first then Barnes and Brewer as a last resort. Why? Brown can play both PG and SG. He is just as athletic as Brewer and can actually shoot outside. Barnes is a tough defender who does not back down. He can make the 3 pt. too. Both are all around better players than Brewer.

THANK YOU! and his highlight reel once in awhile in ESA will make ESA go nuts!!! the jazz will feed off that and go on runs because thats what the jazz do!

Why not just get Brewer? Who is a longer and better defender, and makes just as many highlights?

brown is in different level than brewer. have you looked at his highlights on youtube? and now that we lost our possibly two best 3pt shooting threats in matthews and korver, we desperately need a shooter. browns ability to shoot makes me lean towards signing brown rather than brewer

I would love Shannon Brown on our team. Also really like the idea of giving Shaun Livingston a look as a possible backup. Low risk, and he's got a much higher ceiling than Gaines or Price.

Should be interesting to see how this Al Jefferson thing shakes out. I'm not getting my hopes up till it's a done deal.

I'm also not opposed to bringing back Brewer (assuming we don't match Portland), as long as its not at the expense of cutting CJ's minutes. I really think CJ is primed for a breakout year playing 30 minutes a night. Let AK, Brewer, Hayward rotate.

If the Jazz don't think Kosta or Fes are ready, then I'd like to see them sign James Augustine or Louis Amundsen. Amundsen may cost a little more than he's worth.

I'm starting to salivate for this upcoming season. While I don't expect anyone to remember what I've posted over the past couple years - I will reiterate, I wanted Carlos and Kyle gone since that time. Paul is ready to earn that money. So is CJ. Most of all, D-Will is ready to take over

Piggy backing off my last post, my ideal depth chart would look like this:

PG- D-Will/Shaun Livingston/
SG-CJ/Brewer/Shannon Brown/Hayward
SF-AK/Hayward/Brewer
PF-The Pony/Memo/AK/Kosta or Amundsen?/Augustine/Al Jefferson
C-Al Jefferson/Memo/Fes

As we all know, the SG and SF are basically interchangeable in the Jazz offense. So coach Sloan will have plenty of flexibility there.

LEEEEGGOO!!

If we signed Barnes, I would freaking dance using my hands. Though I like Brown too. To get one of the two would be awesome.

Well, one thing's for sure about Shannon - when the ball touches his hands, he shoots it. One assist in 21 mins/per. And he shoot under 43%.

If Brewer is healed, I'd rather have him. He can play two positions (SG/SF). Brown is strictly a SG.
