What's new

Great move by KOC, whats next?

So, now that it's official, who do the Jazz get for the 4th wing, and do they sign Fes? If they get Shannon Brown, that also means we say bye-bye to Sundy. If we could get Brown as backup point, would that then move RP to combo guard off the bench, or do we still go for Brewer? And what about Fes?

Possible Roster:

DWill/Brown/Price
CJ/Hayward/Brewer
AK/Brewer/Hayward
Millsap/AK/Kosta/Evans
Jefferson/Okur/Fes/Kosta

The Jazz should just continue their re-uniting ways and bring back Brewer and Amundson.

I am excited and approve of this deal but we did not steal AJ. From last seasons team, we traded Boozer, Ronnie Brewer and a #1 and a #2 in order to acquire him.

no i would rather have ak than harrington. we would get better on offense, but if we trade away ak and if we dont have matthews, we have no defensive presense anywhere in this team

At least Harrington brings toughness though. Something this team is seriously short on. Jefferson helps because he's tougher than Mr charmin but Harrington helps even more.

brown is in different level than brewer. have you looked at his highlights on youtube? and now that we lost our possibly two best 3pt shooting threats in matthews and korver, we desperately need a shooter. browns ability to shoot makes me lean towards signing brown rather than brewer

Did you really just call Mathews one of our 2 best 3 pt shooter's? Seriously?

OK w/ the acquisition of Jefferson, its highly unlikely that the Jazz retain Matthews… Also, seeing how ownership took on salary for the next 3 years, I don’t see them trading AK to for a player who’s contract extends past this. The only way I can see them adding another top player (ie, Harrington) is if they can flip Memo or Millsap for that player or for a TPE.

I only wish KOC had consulted me before finalizing the Jefferson trade cause I had this sweet idea (Chandler over Harrington)….

1) ~17M in TPE (via Boozer-Brewer-Manor), MEM '11 1st (conditional), & UTA '12 1st (conditional) for Al Jefferson & Ramon Sessions
2) Memo & Sessions for Tyson Chandler (i/o them getting Calderon) !!!!!
3) Sign everyone's favorite Lil Brother (just to appease DWill), Ronnie Brewer

Our 2010-11 Championship Lineup:
- DWill (36) / Price (10) / Gaines (x)
- Brewer (26) / Hayward (24) / Jeffers (x)
- CJ (28) / AK (28)
- Jefferson (34) / Millsap (28) / Evans (x)
- Chandler (26) / KoKo (x) / Fes (x)

Approx committed salary for ’11 (excluding Brewer/Gaines/Fes/Jeffers) = $73.45 (add ~6-7M for those 4 guys)
Approx committed salary for ’12 (excluding Brewer/Gaines/Fes/Jeffers) = $45.49 (AK & Tyson come off the books)

Almost the same team as last but we get younger, longer but lose 3pt range in Jefferson/Chandler/Hayward vs Boozer/Memo/Korver…

…but If we sign Harrington using out full MLE (5.765M)
- DWill (36) / Price (10) / Gaines (x)
- CJ (26) / Hayward (24) / Jeffers (x)
- Harrington (28) / AK (28)
- Jefferson (34) / Millsap (28) / Evans (x)
- Memo (26) / KoKo (x) / Fes (x)

Approx committed salary for ’11 (excluding Gaines/Fes/Jeffers) = $75.915 (add ~3-5M for those 3 guys)
Approx committed salary for ’12 (excluding Gaines/Fes/Jeffers) = $62.72(AK expires & estimating 10% increase to Harrington’s MLE)

This team looks like an offensive powerhouse but I’m not sure how they can contend defensively. I also doubt the Millers want to be way over the cap again…. Either way, I love both & I think it’s a top 3 team in the West (LAL, OKC, UTA)

How smart would KOC look if we got Brewer back? Seriously at that point we just traded one future first for Al Jefferson...... amazing. Probably more of a steal than the Gasol trade.

I would love for that to happen but the Memo contract is now as bad as AK's. Even the Knicks wouldn't take that deal.(Remember Isaiah's gone) and they are hoping to land Melo.

While I agree, I think with NY's desire to get someone like Melo, why not trade AK and maybe Koufus for Wilson Chandler, Turiaf, and Curry? I know Curry has a nasty contract, but it expires after this year. This point alone would mean he would be determined to come and play well. For the Knicks they get a larger expiring, along with shed a couple of contracts they don't really want. It would allow Chandler and CJ to start, give Heywood minutes. We'd still need some 2/3 men. Brewer and Harrington could be good, or perhaps use the Harpring TPE for someone like Barnes or Pietrus. Perhaps even offer it to Cleveland for Anthony Parker. I think there are loads of options.

My Next steps

We still need a Shooting Guard that can defend and spread the floor and a backup PG.
I have always liked Shaun Livingston. Serving his first couple of years injured killed any value he had. If we can get him for cheap - i believe the Utah system, is probably the only system, that can get him back to where he should have been when he first came into the league.
Ronnie Brewer would be welcomed back, owever I am no sure he is the best answer. His defense is alright but not spectacular and he cant spread the floor. Matt Barnes is probably the best option if we can grab him with the MLE. If not I'm not sure where else to go. I'd guess that I would just hope that Hayaord is a better defender than advertised or hope that Evans can accelerate his game, alothough I feel he is at elast a few years awa from that.

I am exceited for next year. I think this is a better team that whatwe had last year, if someone can hit the outside shot like Korver did. I will Miss Mathews, Boozer and Korver, and I hope that SLoan learned in the playoffs that he needs o get Fesenko, Koufus and other younger players involved throughout the year rather than waiting until an injury demands it.

Good Luck Jazz and Welcome Mr. Jefferson.
