Greg Miller: We need to get bigger and we need to improve our shooting

It's interesting to me that even though we all seems to think that the team is loaded with bigs, and that we may need to trade someone away if we pick Kanter - Greg Miller is of the opinion that we should still get bigger.

That to me tells me that picking another PF and/or C is not out of the question for the Jazz in this draft.

And the best PF and/or C outside of Derrick Williams would be Kanter.

The End.

But I would really like Austin Rivers, I think he could play PG.

Please say your joking. Those 3 are not even close to Knight.

Rivers on the other hand I wouldn't mind. But that would be like having the Curry problem. Not really a PG, to small to play the 2.

But Kanter has nothing to gain. He is already a top 5 pick. Also playing against others increases risk of injury.

Kanter already destroyed Jared Sullinger, thats enough. Not to mention his athletic stats at the combine solidified him for me as the Jazz pick.

It was just one game, and after that he has not played in any organized, competitive game.

You should copyright that phrase, bottle it up and sell it to all the Kanter nay-sayers. Just a thought.

All kidding aside, Kanter's kinda like last year's Counsins to me. Counsins was the biggest talent in the draft last year no question - but he was pulled back by his attitude. What would have happened if Kanter were allowed to play in the NCAA? May be he could have been the #1 prospect as well. Who knows?

To me it's a risk vs reward situation. You bring the guy in, you work him out, you use all your knowledge and experience and assess.

An interesting story about how Nowitzki was picked 9th courtesy of Wikipedia:

Projected to be seventh pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, Nowitzki passed up many college offers and leapt directly into the NBA as a then still rare prep-to-pro player. In particular Rick Pitino and Don Nelson, head coaches of the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks respectively, were highly interested in acquiring him. After a 45-minute private workout with Pitino, where Nowitzki showcased his versatile shooting, rebounding and passing skills, the Boston coach immediately compared him to Celtics legend Larry Bird; Pitino assured Nowitzki that he would draft him with the Celtics' first-round draft pick at number ten.

However, Pitino's plan was foiled by Nelson, whose team had the sixth pick. Nelson worked out draft day deals with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns: the Mavericks wanted Nowitzki and Suns reserve point guard Steve Nash; the Bucks desired muscular forward Robert Traylor, who was projected to be drafted before Nowitzki; and the Suns had set their sights on forward Pat Garrity, who was projected as a low first round pick. In the draft, the Mavericks drafted Traylor with their sixth pick, and the Bucks selected Nowitzki with their ninth and Garrity with their nineteenth pick. The Mavericks then traded Traylor to the Bucks for Nowitzki and Garrity, and they in return traded the latter to Phoenix for Nash.

Rivers is 6'4, that is legitimate SG size. It's not ideal, but I wouldn't be too worried about starting a 6'4 SG.

Rivers is a SG, period. Dude puts up 30 with 0 assists while dominating the ball. Ice water in his veins.

Here's a stat most wouldn't know; In Knights senior year of HS, he and Rivers were two of the most prolific scorers, even went head-to-head, but did you know Knight took MORE 3's that year AND shot a higher %? All the Rivers fans hate that stat, but true.

Back to topic.
Teague? Maybe, but he's a bit undersized and not a great shooter, by any means.
Kabongo? Love his game, honestly. Super athlete, great finisher, but terrible decision making and sloppy. Needs major improvement before he'd be considered a lottery pick next year. My opinion is it won't happen.
Marshall? Puhleeaase .. won't even dignify that with a response.

By the way, the PG crop for the following year doesn't look any better. Either get your PG this year or any FA ... I say the latter.

Hey Box, you make a group about Brandon Knight loverz, you can be president and I can be co-prez.

I'm on board with ya, I really like Knight. But I like D-will2 more and don't have a problem with Kanter though.

Lit'cherlly ell oh ell'd!! You have MAYBE only seen YouTube clips of these kids and now they are "your guys"?

-Austin Rivers isnt a PG, period.

-Kabongo has Stevie Franchise written all over him

-Teague; "ehhhh"

-Marshall.............

But you keep hope for the future, ok. Tell us all about the 2013 crop of guys you've never seen play either, in a few months.

I dont know how you can tell how good a PG is going to be coming out of HS. Im pretty sure Knight was ranked above Irving by most HS list and now Irving is almost hands down considered the better prospect.

Knight and Irving were nearly interchangeable in the rankings. Most believed Irving had the greater NBA upside.

Wrong. The mocks have knight at three because outside of this board, people believe him to be a very good talent and worthy of number 3. He improves penetration and shooting, two areas we need alot of help with.

Not too long ago, Knight was not in top 10. After all of the important players withdrawn he rose to 3. Its not about worthy or talent stuff, its bullsh....

You have no idea what you are talking about. You only know.....THE KANTER. Btw...interested to know how you became a fan of the jazz.

i know very well what im talking about, im following the draft boards whole year. I like knight a lot, but i wished to get him at 12 in ncaa tourney and it seemed likely, then i thought, well he isnt bad, we can pick him at 6. And now, he rose to 3? Well he is good but not that good. Its ok if we pick him with a trade and using 12 th pick but not at 3 plz. I wouldnt compare him to either Irving and Kanter.

When i started watching nba intensively, it was the year memo was allstar and utah went to conference finals. So , you gotta thank to turkish players to include me inside the jazz community. Anyway we say, The Team is chosen once. So i am not gonna leave my team even if memo gone or whatever else happens. Just i am frustrated to see always a playoff team, staying in the same point for many years. Its better to be like cleveland, at least they have hope to get a great draft pick and be contender again. We r getting very lucky picks in the last 2 yrs, new york pick was came outta nowhere, and this pick was a real gift of God. Last year they made a good choice and i hope this year too they will use the pick well, getting best player available . Because its very likely that we wont have a 3rd pick again in the next couple centuries

Yes I agree. I remember Chad Ford had Knight floating between 7 - 10 at one point with top 6 being: Irving, Williams, Kanter, Vesely, Jonas and Kemba in no particular order.

It wasn't until Jazz got the 3rd pick when virtually every mock drafts started having Knights being the 3rd pick.

its becuz knight they think knight is good fit for us and it is true, the best fit in the draft for utah is either irving or knight. But the question is whether to take the best guy available or best fit?

Since we are in a rebuilding process, its better to pick the best guy available, so we can set the skeleton of the team on hayward favors and lets say kanter. And its not difficult to find complementing pieces once u have a good core. Jefferson and harris cant be part of a core who can be contender.
Otherwise, if we get knight, we will have 2 young core players, plus Jefferson, knight, decent additional players but not enough.

It is like, we have already kobe and bynum, instead of getting Gasol, we prefer to get a decent pg and keep our decent big man. It doesnt make sense for me

Most people have Knight ranked ahead of Kanter.
