Trey did have a nice 3PT play. That shot was key: it raised his percentage for the game from 28% to 38%!

He also had a nice push in the final minutes that ended up in a drop off to Favors, sending him to the foul line.

Not bad. I could see this being a strength next year with more improvement in year two under Quin and organic growth from the youngsters. I expect Hood's number to increase big time. He's got great form and a confidence to him imo. Burke should be taken out back and shot.

He took another one with foot inside the line in the first half. Every game he has 1-2 of those that make me shake my head. His shot selection and no-shot selection are really frustrating to watch sometimes. Especially the wide open ones he refuses to take from the corner and instead decides to pound the ball and drive it into traffic. The fact that he's shooting great % from those spots and very low % on his drives to the hoop makes this even worse.
 
Trey wasn't awful last night... i just don't think he should shoot very much. He should not shoot more than 8 shots a night. He also made good plays down the stretch.

Gobert is amazing... he affects the game without scoring. Just love what he does out there.

My hope is that Trey opens himself up to the coaching. I don't think he's hopeless, but I do see him more as a backup than a starter. I think that he'd be effective off the bench as long as he's not leading the team in shots taken.

He's going to be Earl Watson in terms of his career. He'll want to be a starter and bounce around with a few teams, always a "stop-gap" solution until that team upgrades. I doubt he'll accept a backup role until 5-6 more years in the league.

I agree on both points.

I didn't think trey was as bad as normal last night. I also noticed him talking to teammates and trying to be a leader

Nah I don't think he is that below average. I just think that Guards are not motivated to play defense when their center becomes a presence when you compare it to the other bigman's level of motivation near that presence. So a guard that has no real competition to the starting spot because of the informal rookie rules will most likely try to play harder defense when he faces the threat of losing his title. I see a lot of good things in Trey, but Rudy's defense is not one of the things that will push him to play better D. I think he will be recognized as a legit starter at some part of his career.

errr.... because in the D-league they're taking shots like it's in practice with no NBA-type defense ??????

There may be some truth to that as Elliot Williams shot 29% in two NBA seasons from 3 but Andre Owens in a couple of NBA seasons average 38% from 3 but only 31% in the DLeague. These guys are having to make them in a game with a shot clock.

Wasn't attempting to do a comp in terms of specific abilities, just in career trajectory. Watson got a chance to be a starter a couple of times but he just didn't have starter ability. He had a nice career as a backup (well, prior to crashing and burning his last three seasons). He was a career 41%/32% shooter, which is close to where Trey is at.
