Gun to your head - Which draft class would you rather have?

Exum does not have a defined position (sg/pg)

Burks definately does have a defined position as a shooting guard...... who can shoot btw

Exum's definitely a PG the way he plays (looking to pass first, having the ball in his hand), he can also defend quicker PGs no problem whatsoever. Without Burke on our team, Exum would start at the PG, there's no question about that.

Actually this lineup would be quite interesting in terms of the mix of playmaking ability, slashing and shooting. It's also going be very very long:

Exum
Hayward
Hood
Kanter
Favors

Has been the lineup I've been looking forward to since draft night.

Exum's definitely a PG

Not what scouts and nba analists and sports radio guys are saying

Sometimes its ok to just say "i was wrong about that"

Exum is a combo guard. I have no idea where he will play most of his minutes.

Burks is a sg. I know for a fact where he will play ALL of his minutes.

Are you serious right now? This is what Chad Ford said in his grading of the 2014 draft:

Trey Burke was good for them this past season, but they really need some size at the point. Burke and Exum will play together at first and eventually I think Exum will take the starting position from Burke.

Me too.

I do like Burke a lot, but if I'm completely honest with myself, that's the lineup I would like to see long term. Burke is a good shooter and a leader, but so is Hood.

Whatever.
There was a ton of discussion about where exum would be played (pg or sg) when we drafted him and before we drafted him.
Stick to your guns though no matter what ok

We are done here

Please Nickkk. Just stop. Half the time Ford doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, and I've heard more say he's more a combo.

Completely agree with fish

Kkk, you need to start talking about things you know, but then that would leave you obsolete.

DL and Co. are putting on a brave face right now saying Burke and Exum can play together - who really knows what they really think will happen long term.

BTW - in a video on NBA.com, Lindsey says to Exum pretty bluntly before the press conference "We'll either get John (Stockton) to come down or get Dante to go, we like to get our PGs to spend time with him".

Only time will tell.

LOL.. so you're questioning Ford now? What are your credentials again?

I am with you kkk. I have heard way more that he is PG than a combo guard. Weird there is even an argument about this. Time will tell though.

I guess you guys will just have to watch the summer league game tonight and see if he starts at sg, starts at pg, or comes of the bench at pg.

My guess? He starts at sg.

Fwiw
I think exum is more of a point guard than shooting guard and i hope he plays point guard mostly.

But to act as if there is no question that he has a clearly defined role as a point guard, after all the discussion about what position he will play and how he will be used, is pretty dumb.

Trey burke is obviously strictly a point guard and 100 percent of his minutes will be there.

Alec burks is strictly a sg and 95 of his minuted will be there.

Gobert is strictly a center and 100 percent of his minures will be there

Exum is a combo guard (more of a point though) and no one knows how his minutes will be divided among the 2 positions.

I would even take it a step further..

He IS a SG, period.. that most scouts believe can easily learn the PG spot and become extremely good at it.
right now, a SG though.

Isn't he the starting PG for his national team? I agree that he has a lot of work to do before he assumes that role full time in the NBA, but everything that is out there that I have read on him says he will play PG in the league. No expert on him so very well could be wrong, but would love a legit 6-6 PG running our team for the next 10 plus years.

I agree with this. Didn't read the whole thread so if we are talking strictly summer league then no way he starts at PG tonight. I like fords assessment, or should I say hope his assessment of him assuming the starting PG spot a few years from now is possible.

No we were not talking strictly summer league

Kkk said that exum and hood are the only core guys that have clearly defined roles and i said that exums role is not clearly defined.

I think he is a pg more than i think he is a sg but the fact that alot of people see it the other way (see pkms post) shows that it is not clearly defined at all.

Burke, burks, and goberts positions are WAY MORE clearly defined

Gotcha. I'm with you on that.

Mock drafts started listing him as a PG as he was projected to make that transition.. but he was/is definitely looked upon as a SG by actual evaluators. I have NO doubt he was drafted to be a PG.. none. And I have 100% confidence in his ability to do so.
However, the scout that first tipped me off to him before he was ever on any mock draft site, told me (and again more recently) he is a crafty scorer, with fantastic handles, feel for the game, swagger, and can get anywhere he wants to go on the court. Also has incredible court vision or sense for the flow.. he plays a little chess, if you will... but he's never really been put in the position to yield to other players and to create for the pass more so than create for himself.

Truth is I don't "know" any more than anyone else here, obviously.. but this is what a head scout has told me more than once.
