Harris rumour

Not sure how it would benefit the Jazz to tip off Harris as to a trade before it's done. If it falls apart, it puts egg on KOC's face and Harris' ego is bruised. That's why most GM's don't involve players in the process until it was a done deal. Deron found out he was being traded on ESPN for heaven's sake...and Devin finds out days in advance? Come on people...

I don't think teams can mandate where a player works out during the summer. Secondly, I DO NOT want Beidrins, the guy is not cheaper than Harris. He has more years on his contract and he has done nothing but whine since he got his big contract. I like the idea of getting a pick for Harris because I don't think the Jazz are going to re-sign him next year. The Jazz do not need anymore big men unless they are going to trade one of our bigs. The Jazz need a starting PG or SF out of this draft who can shoot.

I don't care if these rumors are true or not at least there is something to discuss or debate.

I agree this rumor is fishy because of the so called pre-notice to Harris. I still like the idea of Harris being traded for a pick.

Not to mention that Biedrins likes to party. I saw him a couple of years ago sitting in a limo outside a bar completely hammered in SF no less than 2 hours after a Warriors game ended. I figure it must take a 7 footer a lot of alcohol (or whatever else) to get hammered, and he managed to get ready, drive to SF and get hammered in 2 hours. Quite impressive, actually. I must admit that he was pretty nice though, I'll give him that.

Who's out there in the draft that's already better than Harris? Lillard? Maybe someday, but not now. Would probably have to trade all the way up to 5 to get him too. Feels like a step backward to me. Would rather sit back and see what they could get at the deadline if they really have no plans of re-signing Harris.

Well you take a big gamble waiting at the deadline and people are going to offer you crap because they know you don't want to re-sign him. Maybe the Jazz have other plans in FA (Nash, Dragic) to get a PG and this trade is to clear cap space and to get a shooting SF.

Exactly.
And with most teams having the amnesty provision still available, there is much less value for expiring contracts.

I don't like Biedrins much, either. But you have to give up something to get something. Harris is NOT worth a lottery pick. He's not worth a top-15, established PG. SO if the Jazz COULD get a starter, whether that be Lillard or a SF, at #7, then I think it's worth thinking the price for that pick would be virtually a wash this season (deduct Harris, add Biedrins + rookie salary) and an extra $9M/per over the next two.

And you never know, GS has been such a zoo, the change of scenery, and being around guys like Millsap, Evans, etc. could instill new life into Biedrins. He could be a decent backup to Kanter.

I guess where you and I differ is that I don't think the Jazz are desperate to trade/replace him. If there's a solid offer out there for him that's fine. I just don't think they'll dump him for a pick (or that they should). The Jazz can always use that cap space next off-season if they decide not to re-sign him. Seems awful risky to me to dump a proven player for cap space. We aren't a marquee destination for FA's as we all know.

Someone asked David Locke this on his video chat, said he hasn't heard anything about it and the Jazz would never do that even if they planned to trade him.

I call BS. No way the Jazz tell Harris to quit training because they 'might' have a deal put together .. and no way they have a deal already put together, tell Harris, but no one else.

I smell HH in this one.

They moved dwill without anyone even knowing until after he was moved, even dwill, so I agree with you on this. I call BS.

It's possible that the Jazz are politely asking Harris not to injure himself, as there is a trade in the works. I guess it would be the ultra-conservative version of holding a player out of practice or a game during the season due to a trade being imminent. Now is the time to trade Harris for something. His value isn't likely to increase.

This draft is going to be interesting. It looks like there are a mad scramble worth of deals on the table for a number of teams, and it all depends on who drafts whom for whom.
