Has a team ever had two players finish 1-2 in DPOY voting??

Because I feel like the Jazz could see this happen in the coming years. Obviously, Rudy is already there. I'm projecting a bit on Donovan Mitchell, but with his tenacity, knack for causing turnovers, and his wing span allowing him to guard 3 positions, I could easily see this kid quickly gaining a reputation across the league as a top-notch defender.

Obviously, it's tough sledding right now with guys like Gobert, Draymond, and Leonard all in their defensive hay days but I think/hope this kid has what it takes to insert himself into the discussion. Should be fun to watch.

I assume since they will finish 1-2 on MVP voting that 1-2 DPOY is not a big deal.

Closest almost certainly would have been Duncan/Robinson. The Walli in Detroit were another great defensive duo of course.

I doubt the politics would ever allow that.

I still think Gtime not making all NBA was just to get him out of a small market amiright? Otherwise he'd been walking away from over 80 million or so

Haywood leaving sucked. I'm not sure paying Haywood that type of money wouldn't have sucked more.

It's tough to find all-time voting results, but I can find them year-to-year. I just randomly searched the results for 1990 and saw that Dennis Rodman won while still in Detroit and Joe Dumars finished 3rd.

Something we Jazz fans should be excited about: Along with all the suggestions in this thread, it seems that historically, any team that's had 2 players that are good enough to both finish in the top 5 of DPOY voting, usually end up being pretty special teams that either won titles or had great playoff runs and came close to winning titles.

If DM is the real deal defensively, maybe Lindsey and Snyder have indeed found their formula....

Really good work. Who were the other teams to have two top 5 DPOY players?

Also, Donovan Mitchell will almost certainly never deserve a #2 DPOY finish. You can count the number of guards that good defensively through history on one hand.

Rudy Gobert was clearly the DPOY this past season. He didn't win it. And he never will. Through no fault of his own, he's a total bad***. But these media voters who never watch games or do statistical research will never give it to Rudy. It's going to be Draymond or Kawhi that get it every single year whether it's deserved or not. It's all about popularity and reputation. Not necessarily what happens on the court.

In 2013 Marc Gasol was Defensive Player of the Year and Tony Allen was 5th.
In 2007 Bruce "sweep the leg" Bowen and tim Duncan finish 2-3.
In 1997 Dikembe Mutumbo and Mookie Blaylock finished 1-3. Mutumbo averaged 3.3 bpg, mookie averaged 2.7 spg.

I doubt the politics would ever allow that.

May have saved our franchise. Can you imagine paying him 35% of the cap every year. Add in Rudy, Rubio, Ingles and not much left to pay for Hood or Exum plus fill the rest of the roster.

Gobert was great, but so was Draymond. Kind of like the MVP argument. Both deserved the award; only one can win.
