Hayward Highlights vs Lakers

Modern day Harpring?

- Slick post moves for a 6'6 guy.
- Gets to the basket well
- Cuts hard
- Uses screens well and moves without the ball well
- Lives off the curl jumper and a variety of scoring opportunities 18 feet and in

The similarities are there.

Two things- Hayward is 6'8". So he is taller than Harpring ever was. Also he plays more like AK than Harpring. He uses fakes and quickness rather than power moves.

Biggest difference between Hayward and AK, offensively, seems to be Hayward's finesse around the basket and in the post. AK never had finesse.. his moves always either consisted of awkwardly rolling the ball in the basket or wildly catapulting the ball toward the hoop with his bamboo-like arms. Harpring had good touch on his jumper and in the post... better than AK ever had, anyway.

....much better shooter, isn't a hypochondriac, more coachable, less stubborn, faster, quicker, smarter....but there are some similarities!

Biggest (and most important) difference: he still has two good knees.

Love the kids up fakes. He gets those guys jumping through the roof just to watch him dribble by and make a layup.

He plays similar to KK without the ball. Korver's biggest problem was guys could hug him defensively. They were too afraid to let him get wide open, but he was too slow to get away consistently. Korver always played hard and stayed moving, but was just not quick enough. Hayward could develop an incredible shot, and hopefully becomes much quicker than Korver was last season. Plus, his ability to move awkwardly may help him get open by making random moves and jumping between a couple of guys to lose a trailing defender. Anyone have speed numbers?

It's obvious Hayward has better potential with the ball.

This may sound strange to some, I didn't like the pick at first, but Gordon kind of reminds me of Ginobli. Obviously not of his caliber but he gets a lot of real estate out of his steps after dribbling. Almost the Europeon step.

Interesting comparison.
I hated the pick at first, but the more I see and hear on him, I'm now definitely in his corner!
Great pick, KoC; glad you had the guts to pick him over any of the remaining 'bigs' we fans so coveted. As Jerry has said.... "If I listened to the fans, I'd soon be sitting with them"... Applies to the GM too!
