So who do you keep? Hayward or Burks?

Shooting:
Hayward is better outside shooter but he is very inconsistent. I give him a slight edge here

Passing:
Hayward makes better decisions, generally, but Burks is more creative when penetrating

Driving:
Burks has a big edge in getting to the hole

Defense:
Hayward is a better defender but Burks has quicker feet and should eventually be a better man-on-man defender

Clutch:
Burks also has a big edge as well; Hayward more often than not comes up short in the clutch
 
Good question.
if I were simply "keeping" one I would likely keep Hayward.. however, it would not be that simple and a trade of sorts would be involved.
that said, I'd keep Burks because I think Hayward nets us more in return.

I would keep Hayward. More a basketball IQ. Burks reminds me too much at times of CJ the chucker.

Don't know how you're getting this conclusion if you actually watch the games. The only thing burks and cj have in common is that they are 6'5 6'6' black guys.

Being CJ the Chucker is a good thing when your TS% is above 55%. If Burks can make more improvements and gets his TS% to about 60% he will be a superstar. It is all about learning to make small, simple improvements on his reads for passing or good shots.

After 5 years of declining shooting stats, CJ goes to Cleveland and resurrects his career. Millsap and Carroll improve their shooting in Atlanta. Is it just me, or is anyone else wondering how much good coaching may improve the performance of the current guys on Utah's roster?

It seems that just about everyone during the Corbin era but Foye has done better after going to another team, and that's because Foye seemed to be Corbin's boy.
 
I wasn't a big Burks guy until the second half of last year. I only saw flashes and it reminded me of inconsistent players we had before, however, the 2nd half of the season Burks was really good. I see it now. I also am worried about the mental makeup of Hayward. Last year you could tell the contract stuff bothered him. What if he gets paid and worries about living up to that contract.

By the end of the season I had more faith in Burks spot ups than Hayward.

BTW if I had to pick it would be Burks, but Hayward is big enough to play the 3. If we don't get a 3 in the draft just start them both and figure it out later. Also, I think Burks has earned the right to start.

Could see him scoring an efficient 20 pts per game if he's a starter. He is also a decent passer... I like where he is headed.

I think it is because the ball used to stick with him a little bit. He corrected it. What is the max you would sign him to for an extension?

1. Most of CJ's shooting decline came under Sloan. Jerry was clearly the worst coach in the league.

2. Millsap didn't improve his shooting in Atlanta.

3. Carroll was a nobody before he hit Utah. He became a true NBA rotation player with Ty as his coach.


You have an incredible ability to ignore inconvenient facts.

Demarre's free throw has dropped 10% -- well, he was getting lots of minutes, so fatigue could be a factor -- what about the rest of his game?
Millsap's 2pt % and overall % dropped in Atlanta -- he also made the All-Star team

Mo Williams improved in Utah -- are you kidding, he sucked when he came back, wasn't anywhere near the player he had been after he left the first time

Derrick Favors has improved each season -- less than was projected
Devin Harris improved in Utah -- What? He was better before, and better afterwards
