The Thriller

Has caused quite a stir here in Utah. From what I understand it restricts the amount of information the state needs to release to the public. A strong invitation for corruption, bribery, and backdoor deals.

Rep Buttars (crazy old dude) was the only Repub who didn't vote in favor for this bill.

Thoughts?

Why should we have the right to know what our government is doing? They would never do anything to harm any of us and then lie about it. Just ask the down-winders.

We don't need to know about every backroom deal that is made between our elected "representatives" and our non-elected actual representatives.

You call him a crazy old dude, yet he voted the side you seem to be in favor of? Newspapers make people out to be more than they are to generate revenue...

The republicans in Utah have gone rogue. Some of them are really pissing off their constituents as they sell out to big corp. The Zions bank bailout a few years back a.k.a. $6000 New Homebuyer Incentive did wonders for Zions and nothing for the rest of us small folk. We have too many houses, people can't sell their used ones for then 20% discounts of previous appraised values, and they thought it wise to incentivise new construction only purchases. They're rogue. Forget Buttars and look to Bramble.

BTW, there are two Buttars on the hill. I don't know if they are related.

Rep Buttars is one crazy old dude. However, I do believe he voted in support of his constituents on this one.

Not one Democrat voted in favor of this bill. While only one Repub did not.

Interesting. Any suggestions as to what this means?

And it looks like that under the veil of protection from public harassment, they're passing a bill giving them an avenue to do their shady deals with no fear of being caught.

God, I hate republicans. I'd rather deal with the idiotic and stupid Democrats than the evil and corrupt Republicans.

Don't kid yourself, they are the same.
They might use different words, and appear to approach things differently.... but they are the same.

they voted along party lines?

Yeah, because the Obama administration has been so great at doing all of their deals in broad daylight. I've said it before, republicans and democrats are two sides of the same coin.

And now I'm looking at SB165.

"It would prohibit using electronic signatures on websites to help qualify a candidate, party or referendum for the ballot. It also would base the number of signatures needed to get an initiative on the ballot on the number of votes cast for president in the last election, instead of those cast for governor — essentially requiring more signatures."

Fantastic. I can't wait for the taxpayers to shell out money defending this illegal bill.

Law makers try and hurry this bill through

people call ******** and flood the capitol with protesting, phone calls, email etc

They pass it anyway.... "We'll pass it now and then debate it before it become law in July"

W T F ?

Citizens basically cannot repeal these types of acts anymore in Utah, the legislature recently made it that way. The amount of signatures needed is astronomical now. Of course, the legislature probably thought about that as they quickly rammed this one through.

Here in a few weeks all will be forgotten though. We'll be bitching about teachers, unions, or Obama soon enough and forget this ever happened. We'll then lose millions in corruption (such as the 13 million that disappeared via UDOT to a losing contractor) without us ever knowing.

What angers me is that we're their bosses. They answer to us. But today, they took away a huge way that their bosses can keep tabs on their employees. Runaway out of control arrogant government anyone?

Utah legislators taking a big #2 on the people these days.

We all know how to fix this problem. But will people finally stop voting the morm... I mean the straight party R ticket?

What's sad is that they spent a lot more time arguing about which gun should be the state gun than discussing (or rejecting) this piece of crap that all citizens did not support. The Dnews reported that they have been flooded with emails and letters about this issue. Not one in support of this bill... And the legislature passes it anyway...

You're not a satisfied Salt Lake Spinbune customer or anything.

I can read an issue and pick your stance with 100% accuracy.
