I think there's a way to do it. Maybe you have Hayward, Favors and Rudy in a room together with their agents and outline the financial outlook of the Jazz. Don't have them agree or disagree in the meeting, just lay out the general parameters. Show the Cavs model vs. the Spurs and W's - i.e. if those three want max or near max, they could have it, but understand the rest of the team would then consist of mainly lower-tier vets or guys on rookie contracts.

The new CBA and the new cap, via the TV deal, will allow teams to max out at least 3 players. We'll be playing out the next few identifying our maxed players and keep them. Right now it looks like Gobert, Hayward, and Favors. We'll see.

I think we can pay Rudy part of his contract in cheese. French like all those fancy kinds. Just promise to put a cheese plate in his hotel room every night on the road. Just my impression and maybe I'm WAY off base, but Rudy strikes me as the type to give Utah a discount. I can't read Hayward.

I think he needs to do that twice. If he were voted league MVP, he'd only have to do it 1x. Pretty significant, though, if he wants the full 30% because Hayward will also be eligible for 30% based upon 7 years in the league at that point. Jazz are going to have serious money problems even under the new cap if everyone wants max amount.

Yes, exactly. I believe that was the case with Paul George.

True, but this only applies to extensions and the only real impact it has for us is that we will not be able to offer any of our other rookies a 5 year extension after their third years. When their contract expire, we can still offer them all 5 year deals if we want to.

There`s gonna be a lot of them this year I think. With the rising cap, it really is no big deal to give rookies their max extension under the currant CBA.

Chandler Parsons and Gordon are the 2 I know in this category now.
