Hero Ball

The problem is that we go Iso Mitchell even when he isn't the hot hand. It's just too predictable as he very seldom considers the assist, even to Rudy in those situations.

Basketball is a TEAM game. The idea is to find the open man with the easiest shot closest to the basket and get him the ball. If your point guard can do that you will win most games. If you bury your head in your lap and drive to the basket with eyes wide shut, you will lose most of those games. Finding good 3 point shooters is also key!

Oh my God what some eye roll garbage. Here’s the bottom line everyone. It’s Donovan’s team. It’s Donovan’s future that matters the most to the franchise. You know why he gets the ball isoed every situation like that?.....Because that’s what you do with your star, and despite what some of you seem to think...our guy is still a 23 year old kid going through the growth of becoming the best player he can be. He should get the ball every single time in every situation like that. Period. And whatever decisions he makes is what you live with. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won’t, but you always go with your best player and your star. Every star has missed shots or made wrong decisions. So honestly....if you have an issue with whatever decision he made last night?......Sorry but stfu. You had no issue with the 6-7 plays before that he made to drag the Jazz back into that game in the last 5 minutes. Pointing out only the negative is just whining BS.

It’s like Lebron in the finals “he should have taken the last shot not passed to Korver who missed”.....y’all will never be pleased if it’s an L despite what decisions made.

But!! New York...

He’s going to be here for quite a while. His prime will be played here. His future and continued development into the super star he can be is the most vital thing to the franchise. Anyone whining about him playing hero ball needs to stfu. He is the hero the franchise needed, now let him be.

Walt Clyde Frazier is our announcer and he always talks old school about how to handle hero ball situations. Keep it simple -- the hot hand. Make plays for, look for the hot hand. The guy was doing it all game under pressure, why look elsewhere for the final shot?

Odd thing about those final hero ball shots is everybody knows the guy is going to get the ball...yet, they still can make the play and sink the shot. Your best player (or super hot hand for that night) can make those shots. Let them take it. Come on, Kawhi's four bouncer on the rim to win that playoff series...you knew, everybody knew, that was the guy who had to take the shot. It went in.

Hot hand? Mitchell was 7 of 17.

Bojan was 9 of 15.

If Mitchell had passed the ball to someone and they missed everyone would say he should've kept the ball and taken the open shot at the rim he had.

Not me.
I always defended lebron for passing to a wide open haslem

Mitchell is one of my favorite players, but he seriously needs to improve at getting good shots for his teammates.
He has, basing your opinion off some late clock situations where he absolutely should be doing what he’s doing is ridiculous. He has had some of the most amazing passes and plays for teammates of the season. So let’s stop with the charade over a missed basket after he drug the Jazz through the last 5 minutes of that quarter.

I am ok with Mitchell going hero on the last posession. But he shouldn't do it for the half of the last quarter. Engage Bogey and others more during that time. I am talking in general not specifically the last game.

Okay, so here's the point I'm trying to make: as I said earlier with my reference to Doc Rivers, good coaches have multiple options (and go to players) at the end of games, we have one. And I might add, that one is a 6'1" shooting guard, that to my way of thinking has to work a little harder to get himself open for the shot. (Is there another player at that height in the NBA with a similar usage rate at the end of close games?) And as I said earlier, none of this falls on Mitchell in my view, this is Snyder's coaching scheme. Am I wrong to suggest that this highly respected coach may have some flaws in his designs?

This year, in a very small sample size, we are eighth in close game wins - this is not representative in my view. Last year however, through the course of an entire season of employing our late game Iso Mitchell strategy we came in dead last in close game wins https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/win-pct-close-games?date=2019-06-14 .
