Hill Update

Don't sleep on the Lakers, they play hard.

Lakers are solid at home this year. This will be harder than the Twolves road game.

Again with Hill I like our chances, without him we'll need Hood and Hayward to bring the O.

They have been but are banged up bad right now. D'Angelo Russell, Nick Young, Calderon and Nance are all hurt.

What is his pre-Jazz injury history like?

IIRC, Hill was out about half of the 14/15 season with the Pacers with a leg injury. Missed a dozen plus in the lockout year, and about 10 games every other season with mostly leg and shoulder issues.

His injuries don't overly concern me. I think he is a keeper, and is the type of player that adapts based on the personnel around him, so as our young guys develop more, he will adapt. His play this year is no fluke. He played amazing when Paul George was out for a season too.

This plus the type of injures this year don't concern me. Banged up limbs and digits happens. I'd like Hill in a Jazz jersey the next couple seasons.

Good to see Favors and Burks out getting some shots in. We could have a full squad soon.

Stoked I need to see this team at full strength, and soon.

Amen my friend. Hopefully all three come back during this big homestand that we have.

Call me a homer, but with the squad at full strength I think we are the second best team in the NBA. Of course thats with a healthy, and effective Favors.
With that interior presence I would take our chances against anyone except GS in a 7 game series. I had no idea Hill would be so good, and Ingles being so effective off the bench. Add in a healthy Burks slashing, and scoring off the bench?

It will be interesting to see how we match up with GS on Thursday. I predict Hill AND Favors are back for that game.

Got to admit that I am a little skeptical of Favors. Is he really a good fit? Defense yes, but offense? He clogs the lane and does not spread the floor. That and he is not much at passing the ball. And to my eyes he looks like he brings full intensity only every 5 or 6 games.

How does he clog the lane more than Diaw? He is a much better jump shooter. He is much better in the pick and roll or pop than anyone on the Jazz. I think people feel that the only way to spread the floor is shooting the three and that is not true. Favors is also our only real inside offensive presence. Gobert gets put backs and alley oops but nothing he really creates in the low post like Favors does. He creates an all new level to our offense. Plus he can play backup center better than anyone on our team. He also helps spread the floor by demanding double teams while posting up undersized PF, which the league is filled with. He also makes our defense elite. Gobert is a better rim protector but Favors is a better defender in just about every other way. Plus we dont have a giant fall off when Gobert is off the court. Additionally teams cant simply pull Gobert out of the paint on pick and rolls and 3 point shooting centers and have no rim protection.

People forget that Favors was our second best player the last couple years. At times when healthy he looked like he was on the verge of being our best player. Gobert is playing healthy and better this year but there is no reason to think Favors hasnt stepped up his game when healthy. All accounts say he worked very hard this off season and is very motivated to have a great year. He has improved every season of his career. He might step up and be our best player when healthy or at least be the #2 he has been for awhile.

Favors makes this team much better. Diaw and Lyles have their moments and roles but are no where near Favors level all around or even just on offense, let along defense.
