The veterans mini camp is being held today and Saturday. Here are my selections for diamonds in the rough. First I am assuming that Favors will not be back. Second with the former Salt Lake Stars the coaching staff/DL do not view them as prospects. So with that my selections are Shawn Dawson, Perry Jones III and Luke Petrasak. Jones is a former Baylor player and a former first round pick. Dawson grew up in Israel and has played in pro leagues there and had decent stats. Petrasuk has a degree from Columbia, is smart and has the makings of a stretch 4.

If he’s healthy, Jones is intriguing as an end of the bench guy with some developmental potential. His knees seem to continue to be the biggest concern for him.

No. He's a guy that has had a lot of stops already. I don't know if it's work ethic, character or what. He was a McDonald's All American.

In the 2016 NBA draft I remember that we picked Isaiah Whitehead and promptly traded him to Brooklyn. When interviewed afterwards, Dennis said that we had our eyes on a big man who was available a few picks before us but he was drafted just ahead of us and so we had the trade lined up..

There were 3 big men drafted right before us. Diamond Stone, Stephen Zimmerman, and Chinanu Onuaku. I was always curious which one of the 3 it could have been. Knowing our drafting style, I would have thought Chinanu was the guy. Stephen had the potential as a stretch big. Diamond made the least sense. But seeing this... Diamond Stone may have been that guy.

K.J. McDaniels is a good defender. Meh on offense. Wouldn't mind him in summer league to see if he's improved. The rest of the list is passable, IMO.

Was thinking the same thing. I also think that some of these guys end up on the Stars this year. Still like Melo Trimble and I’m intrigued by Shawn Dawson. I’d be very interested in seeing if he gets a spot on the team for summer league. Seems like a very DL type of move.

Dawson averaged about 16-17 ppg this year. The guy that was 2nd in the league was Jordan Hamilton who was a Jazzman briefly as he was piced up on waivers the same time Ingles was. A stat that is not so great is 30%nfrom 3. at
