Assuming the Jazz are unable to sign a starter-quality SG this summer, who should they go with as their long-term starter at two? Burks has experience, ability to score at the rim and defense. Hood seems to be a smarter player, better 3-point shooter and plays better within the system. And, oh, he also has the length, which seems to be the thing that the Jazz is looking for in their players. I am torn, but with every game Hood looks better and better compared to Burks.

I prefer Hood in the starting line up because Burks would dominate second units, while Hood wouldn't. In addition to better spacing blah blah.

Too early to say. I want to say Hood just because we've been on such a tear with him playing well, but Alec could've been in the exact same position had he stayed healthy. If I had a gun to my head and had to choose one now though I think I'd lean towards Hood. I just think he'll be a more reliable 3 point shooter as their careers go on and I think we'll need that to stretch opposing defenses since our offense so frequently looks anemic.

Good thing we have both though and can evaluate them in the offseason.

Edit: To better answer the OP question yes I would take Hood with this starting unit right now.

I like Hood as the starter. He is a better shooter and with him and Hayward out there together, it opens things up for Favors and Gobert.
Plus, I still love Burks as the 6th man scoring assassin.
Burke, Burks, Ingles, Booker and some other dude make a decent second unit.

The thing about Hood that I really like is that he seems to be always cool, calm and collected. Even at the end of the games. And Burks in the crunch times often plays out of control by gambling and forcing. Hood plays like a vet even right now, while it may take Alec two more seasons to get to where Hood is after playing a half of his rookie season.

Hood is the better 3 point shooter and doesn't demand the ball as much. Burks is better at creating his own shot and can put a lot of pressure on any second unit in the NBA. Just seems clear that the best fit for each of them would be for Hood to start and Burks off the bench. If we got another starter in the draft or FA (Middleton, Matthews, Johnson, Hezonja, Russel) then have them both come off the bench. Pretty good set of wings coming off the bench, and May even have Burks do more of the ball handling. Would love to see back up PG's try to defend him.

Assuming they are unable to sign a starter quality SG? WTF IMO they have 2 in Hood and Burks. SG is not a big need for the Jazz this off season, unless they replace Ingles or Millsap for the 3rd SG spot

Agreed - Jazz need 4/5 depth. Preferably a stretch 4

I don't think so. The Jazz need a backup center.

Edit: Unless we trade Booker, in which case it'd be nice to get a stretch 4 + a backup center.

I'd add a backup PG to the list of needs. And wouldn't mind a shooting specialist at SF or SG instead of Millsap or Ingles.

We already have Hood. We don't need to pay for another one when we already have like 6 of them.
