Hornacek Front Runner for Suns' HC Job

Wow... I guess Lindsey/KOC really do value Ty to let Hornacek walk like this.

It's a total surprise, I thought Hornacek would take over once Ty stuffed up.. well I guess Ty hasn't quite stuffed up badly enough to warrant that...

One of the Phoenix Suns' popular former players – Jeff Hornacek – has emerged as the frontrunner for the franchise's head coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

An assistant coach with the Utah Jazz, Hornacek met with new Suns general manager Ryan McDonough and president Lon Babby in the past week in Phoenix.

No offer has yet been extended to Hornacek, but the Suns' search process could be completed within the next week, league sources said.
Hornacek, 50, played the first six seasons of his 14-year NBA career with the Suns and remains a popular figure in the community. He keeps his offseason home in the Phoenix area.

For the Suns, Hornacek would fit the profile of a coach who could grow with the franchise's plan to rebuild through young players and the draft. Phoenix has six first-round picks available over the next three years, and player development will be a top priority.

The Suns met with Houston Rockets assistant J.B. Bickerstaff on Friday and have received permission to interview Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Steve Clifford. Clifford remains a strong candidate for head-coaching openings with the Bucks and Charlotte Bobcats. The Suns former interim coach, Lindsey Hunter, also interviewed for the job.

Hornacek also interviewed for the Bobcats' coaching opening this week.

With Hornacek at the helm, watch Phoenix pummel us on a regular basis and run rings around our mental midget head coach.

There goes the "Hornecek can work with him to fix his shot" when talking about players that can't shoot but that the fan base is in love with.

Next year it will be Favors and(or) Hayward's turn to go and this FO will get what they deserve - a lottery team coached by the great TyCo.

Jeff had to move on. The Jazz management values' in step yes men' and Jeff couldn't always play along. He expressed his disbelief that Jazz took Alec Burks over Kawai Leonard, his coach talk at half time or at the quarters seemed to reveal a thinly veiled disappointment with what was happening with the team.

Good luck Jeff, before I cheered for you I hated you when your Suns were running and gunning 3's past my Jazz. Will I hate you once more when your Suns team runs and guns past my Jazz?

I would have though Dennis would have sided with Hornacek here?

Still can't see what the FO sees in Ty... it really boggles my mind.

As for "taking over" from Ty, I doubt the Jazz will go down the path of having a rookie coach step in if/when Corbin goes. Ty either shows a lot of improvement as a coach, or Lindsey gets rid of him and brings in a veteran HC.

It boggles all of us. I really thought he would have been fired after this season to completely clean the slate. Or as Lindsey likes to say, as one of the important steps in rebuilding. Ty doesn't match the profile of a spurs coach. Spurs have smart coaching, Sloan was Smart, even if he was too rigid and slow to adapt to new rules.

By the way, did you know that Lindsey has only worked with 4 headcoaches.....Rudy Tomjonovich, Jeff Van Gundy, Greg Popovich and Ty Corbin....

Ty either shows a lot of improvement as a coach

I really hope this happens to be the case. Many insiders around the league have praised Ty's handling of the Jazz situation, while fans and critics have been on the other end.
I do think Horny is a better candidate, but I'm hoping for the Jazz's sake they're making a good decision here.

Hornacek got the Job

Wish I was asleep instead of finding this.

Wow.. this doesn't bode well...

The FO is willing to let Hornacek walk while letting the Corbin/Lowe/Sanders act to continue?

The reason I was able to put up with this ridiculous act was knowing at least Hornacek is waiting in the wing... By letting Hornacek walk this tells me he's no longer in their future plans...

So who is?

I'm not sure how much longer I can stand the Corbin/Lowe/Sanders crew.. unless we're only hanging onto them to "tank".

Name one player who significantly improved his shot under Horny's coaching?

You're missing the point. Everyone was a good candidate despite bad shooting numbers cause Horny was on the team. I'm not saying it worked that way I'm just saying that was the thought.

I completely agree. Next season got a little worse already. Jeff seemed to have a good relationship with the C4.

I guess this could help with the tanking strategy.

My guess.. my honest guess.. would be:

- Let this Ty shanannigans continue in 13/14 and play young guys... tank the last 20 games to sneak into top #5 pick

- Pick up one of Wiggins, Jabari, Harrison brothers, etc.

- Let Ty shanannigans continue in 14/15 to save face (no way the Millers want to be known at the team that "tank" and fired the coach)

- Re-hired experienced coach in 15/16 - all our young guys should be ready by then.

This is very optimistic I know, but I'm of the opinion from various interviews that Lindsey seems to have his head screwed on.

not sure how much horny had to do with it, but i would say that derrick favor's ft shooting has significantly improved... if thats any consolation

No offense but I hope you are very wrong about this. I would hope that the season doesn't go as well as the FO would like and that there are several times that games are lost because of poor coaching decisions. Ty gets canned after the trade deadline and Lowe becomes the interim coach. Lowe shows the same inability to make the right decisions and doesn't game plan appropriately.

In the offseason the Jazz look for a coach at the same time they try and extend Gordon. Gordon makes it clear that the Jazz must offer Brad Stevens a lucrative contract to come coach him again or else Gordon will go elsewhere. Stevens accepts the offer because it is too much money to pass up and the Jazz get a top 5 pick in the draft added to the team and great things come to pass from that point on.

I know that I am dreaming in that scenario but you have to dream it before you can achieve it. It has to be a thought first.
